Not too much new to take from this one. The Pats D forced enough turnovers to make the difference. The deep ball problems continue, but perhaps Dennard has something to offer that Sterling Moore doesn’t.

The pass coverage out of the initial nickel defense struggled, and a personnel adjustment – rookie Alfonzo Dennard in for Sterling Moore – helped produce a spark with a third-down stop in the second quarter. Dennard, the seventh-round pick out of Nebraska, was credited with a pass breakup on the third-down stop.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Patriots play more 3-4 on defense, which they’ve done at times this season, against Denver. The Patriots know center Dan Koppen’s limitations better than the Broncos. Koppen now struggles in one-on-one situations, so the more the Broncos have to help him, the more things could open up for other pass rushers.
Could this be today’s new defensive twist that they haven’t shown yet? You have to think as soon as BB saw he had Manning in week five he knew he had to hold something back to spring on Manning.
In the ’06 AFCCG he suddenly started non-starter Eric Alexander at MLB, and in ’10 he had Kyle Arrington playing a pass rushing defensive end. There will be some new tweaks today for sure on defense, very curious to see what they are.
In his postgame speech to players after the 52-28 win over the Bills, Bill Belichick singled out cornerback Devin McCourty and told him that while he might not have much support from those outside of the locker room (a reference to the media, it would seem), he’d go with him any day.
