Two breakout games and then a broken foot, Patriots move Julian Edelman to IR ending his season.

Patriots Re-Sign Donte’ Stallworth; Place Julian Edelman on IR; Release Mitch Petrus; Signed 2 to Practice Squad: patriots.com/news/article-1…

The real impact of this will be felt in the punt return game where Edelman’s explosiveness is irreplaceable. Now the Patriots will be forced to use Wes Welker more in that role and he’s already dinged up as it is. Perhaps they’ll see if Donte Stallworth has anything to offer in that area.

Not a crippling blow but definitely a significant loss that will have to be overcome, with no clear depth for replacement.

Deconstructing the drive: Breaking down Patriots late dominance of Dolphins – WEEI | Christopher Price

Deconstructing the drive: Breaking down Patriots late dominance of Dolphins – WEEI | Christopher Price

Great play by play breakdown of the Patriots offense finishing off the AFC East in dominating fashion.

What the Patriots did in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Dolphins was impose their will on a Miami run defense considered to be one of the best in the league. The 16-play, 77-yard drive consumed 7:18 and changed the nature of the game: It made it a two-possession contest with 1:10 remaining, and helped secure the AFC East title for the fourth straight year.

interesting list. i’d add georgia’s DT john jenkins to the list and north carolina’s G/C jonathan cooper. love the WR’s listed, i’d add hunter’s teammate cordarrelle patterson. i love his potential. never seen a guy with his size move like that. banks had a terrible end of the year and i’m not big on reid. elam is the top safety on my board for the pats. other safeties to look at are georgia’s bacarri rambo and shawn williams, south carolina’s dj swearinger, and fresno st.’s phillip thomas.

Thanks for sharing some insight. Usually I don’t do much draft research until after the Pats season ends, but it’s been fun to get my feet wet a little early this year.

Realistically, what do you think our chances are against the Texans? With all the injuries and pieces missing, I feel like this could be a really ugly one. Especially after the showing against the Dolphins last week where we seemed determined in throwing and abandoned the running game until we needed to kill clock.

December 4, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Well it’s been a long time since the Patriots suffered “a really ugly one” so I don’t think that’s going to happen. It’s going to be a close game. The Texans have some injuries as well and based on how they’ve played the last few weeks I don’t see anything that makes me think they’ll simply steamroll New England regardless.

It’s also possible the Patriots will get a couple guys back as well, Chandler Jones being the most likely candidate, but perhaps Logan Mankins too.

The Dolphins had a good defense and the Patriots were a little off on Sunday, but I doubt you’ll get back to back flat performances from the offense. They’ll do what they need to do to move the ball, but I think they’ll likely spread the Texans out and then go to work on them.

Regardless of everything this game will come down to the fourth quarter but never bet against Tom Brady and the Patriots at home in December.
