Patriots History Tuesdays: Super Bowl 39 Highlights

In honor of the return of Deion Branch, today we present highlights from Super Bowl 39. One of the things that most impressed me with Branch in this game were the number of difficult catches he made and hung on to. I know Branch is not the same player he once was, but the ability to hold on to the ball is not something that goes away with age. I’m sure Coach Belichick will put Deion in position to make best use of what his talents are now.

Patriots History Tuesday: 1985 Patriots

I have clear memories of the 1985 season and their magical playoff run. Wish I still had my Squish the Fish t-shirt. Perhaps that would be a good thing to go looking for on a swag hunt.

John Hannah was a guest on Bill Simmons’ BS Report last week and he spoke a little about how disappointed the team was after Tony Eason was named the starter for the Super Bowl. It probably played a large part in why they got blown out. Of course it might’ve had something to do with the defense they were playing who actually were the legendary ‘85 Bears.

Side note: The 2010 Patriots will wear ’85 throwbacks on Halloween and Thanksgiving this year.

Tuesday’s are usually the off days in the NFL, so today we’ll try to turn the page from the disappointing Jets loss to the Bills game with a little history lesson. Whether you’re a new Patriots fans or been with them since the early days we should all appreciate the 1976 Patriots. They will also serve as a good reminder of what real disappointment is, putting a week two loss in perspective.

If you didn’t hate the Raiders before, you surely will after watching this…

History note: Coach Chuck Fairbanks was the founding father of the 3-4 defense the Patriots play today.

Belichick Hoodie Bombshell! The Return of the Reebok Hoodie

Usually after a big playoff win I dive right into my analysis with the Pats Posits, my quick-hit piece laying out everything that stood out to me from the game. Well, not today. That’s because after years of Bill Belichick Hoodie Database research, predictions of what he could and should wear, Belichick dropped the biggest […]
