Overall, it is always impressive to see some of the biggest players in the draft display their athleticism. Memphis’ Dontari Poe, who measured 6-foot-4 and weighed in at 346 pounds, probably helped his stock more than anyone. He ran a 4.98 time in the 40. Poe is the type of athletic, big-bodied prospect that I would imagine the Patriots would be interested in, but after his performance today, it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s selected before the Patriots are on the clock at 27.

Poe and Cox are a couple of my early favorites for the Pats, but after today’s combine performances they both might be gone by 27th overall.

I think New England’s a candidate for the fifth straight draft to take a corner in the top two rounds … The hip rehab of New England cornerback Ras-I Dowling is going very well. He’ll be ready for most if not all of his offseason work

Good news on Ras-I.

Correction: Not sure how I got it in my head Ras-I’s injury bug only started his junior year but that info was incorrect. Here’s the accurate injury history:

Problems in regards to injury history. Played just five games in 2010 because of a left ankle fracture, hamstring pull and right knee injury. In 08 he dealt with a hamstring and back injury. Started all 12 games in 09. Pulled a hamstring at the combine but had a great pro day. Had a broken hand and a knee injury in high school.

So yeah, who knows if he can stay healthy…

Barring a late change, look for running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis to make it to the open market on March 13, with the possibility of his return to New England remaining open. It appears the Patriots have set a value on Green-Ellis, and it’s not at a level that has Green-Ellis ready to sign before seeing what interest he might generate on the open market.

Well, we have it on good authority, if things don’t work out with the Colts, which is the most likely scenario, the Patriots are definitely on the radar of the five-time Pro Bowl player. In fact, Peyton Manning’s landing spot notwithstanding, the Pats could be at or near the top of Wayne’s list.

29. New England Patriots – Minnesota DT Ra’Shede Hageman: Some feel Hageman has fallen out of the first round, but coach Bill Belichick has a long history of taking big defensive linemen in the first round. Hageman’s motor may run hot and cold but at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, it’s worth a shot for a team […]
