Patrick Chung’s fall down the depth chart stands out. His eight snaps came on the final three drives of the game, as rookie Tavon Wilson was playing in the dime package over him earlier in the game. The Patriots appear to have settled on a Devin McCourty/Steve Gregory safety pairing. Also, there is more stability at cornerback, with Aqib Talib and Alfonzo Dennard going wire to wire, with Kyle Arrington coming on in the nickel.

What is the three way tie breaker that lets the Pats have the second seed going into this week? Because we lost to the Ravens head to head shouldn’t they be in control of the second seed?

December 3, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Right now it’s technically a three way tie with the Ravens, Pats and Broncos so the instead of head to head the tie breaker goes to conference record. The Patriots are 8-1 in conference, the Ravens are 8-2 and the Broncos are 6-2.

Pats fans should be rooting for the Broncos in two weeks against the Ravens.

The power fuels Patriots in victory – Patriots – Boston.com

It’s a situation, the four-minute offense, in which running the clock and putting points on the board would give the Patriots a two-score lead and put the game away. It’s a situation in which they have been successful just five times in 18 chances since the start of the 2010 season. They had been 0 for 6 this season with the return of offense coordinator Josh McDaniels. Failures led to losses against the Cardinals, Ravens, and Seahawks. The defense had to bail out the offense against the Broncos, Jets, and Bills (a successful drive that yielded a field goal when a touchdown would have made it a two-score lead). This time, the result was different.

Patriots win AFC East, move into AFC’s second seed for now

December 3, 2012 by Mike Dussault

Some might call that an ugly win, but it was nice to finally see the defense come through when the offense was sputtering.

It seemed for a while like injuries might’ve finally caught up with the Pats offense before their offensive line and ground game kicked it into gear to seal the game in the fourth quarter.

It was a sloppy game from the offense and Brady was not locked in. But the defense held the lead into the fourth quarter and the offense closed it out.

That’s complimentary football.

The Patriots are once again starting to gel and starting to really play all around solid football.

With the Ravens loss the Pats move into the second overall in the AFC due to three-way tie break rules in the NFL. Next up?

The top seed Houston Texans on Monday Night Football. What a game that should be.

We’ll have a much better sense of the AFC in two weeks after the Texans and Patriots, and Ravens and Broncos all play. It’s a mini AFC playoff and there’s two byes at stake.

Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was using crutches and wearing a walking boot when he briefly emerged from the locker room after suffering a foot injury in the team’s AFC East-clinching victory over the Miami Dolphins.
