Brady leaves practice

August 14, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Here’s a tweet recap of what happened today at practice. They’re being precautious, but it’s TFB so the general unease until he gets back onto the field is understandable for Patriots Nation. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious…

Little bit of a scare here at Patrios practice as Tom Brady stayed down after incomplete pass in 11-on-11 drills. Was holding left knee …

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) August 14, 2013

Tom Brady walked off under his own power with a slight limp, missed one play, then returned to practice.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) August 14, 2013

Brady keeps looking down at it. Doesn’t look comfortable. Now stretching it on the side

— Greg A. Bedard (@GregABedard) August 14, 2013

Brady leaves again and then back on the field for 11 on 11s. Not running with a limp, but still bears watching.

— Christopher Price (@cpriceNFL) August 14, 2013

After consulting with Belichick, Brady just left practice with a trainer

— Ben Volin (@BenVolin) August 14, 2013

Don’t think Brady was hit. Looked like leg got caught up. He seemed to be holding left knee. Came back, completed a few passes, the left

— Nick Underhill (@Nick_Underhill) August 14, 2013

For what it’s worth, Berj Najarian, Belichick’s right-hand man, doesn’t look concerned, hasn’t left field

He always has an answer to a question no matter how ridiculous it might sound. He’s always quick to bring something to attention if maybe somebody else had missed it on a play or something. He could literally watch film and tell you what every position has to do, or if something broke down, how to fix it. It’s always good to be able to watch film with a veteran like Mayo.

Dont’a Hightower on Jerod Mayo

Jerod Mayo plays grizzled vet | Boston Herald

Good read on Mayo, who had arguably the best year of his career last year. Would still love to see him take the next step in his pass coverage. He’s flashed at times, but in my eyes that remains the weak part of his game. He has the speed and toughness, it’s just a matter of having that savvy in coverage to know where the ball is going. Bruschi developed it, hopefully Mayo can continue to as well.

I think that’s the starting point for any great defense,” Kelly said of the defensive front. “Just like the starting point of any great offense is the D line. If you’ve got a great defensive line then you have something to build from. If you have a great defensive line then you put yourself in a good position – second-and-long situation – or put yourself in a situation where you don’t have to blitz all the time. So, anytime you can have a real good defensive line that’s a benchmark. If you look at all the defenses that been great in this game, they all have A-1 defensive line.

“You can’t single up on [us], especially with a guy like Tommy coming in – his size, and the speed he plays with,” Wilfork said. “The power that he plays with. His size in general. We’re both big guys, but he’s a lot taller than me. He’s longer than me. At the same time, he also brings some power. “He’s a good three-technique. Three, five, wherever we want to move him. That’s very, very good, because we can move him in different positions and move myself in different positions. It will make [it tougher for] our opponents to game plan against us.”

Biggest overall upgrade from last year to this one. Excited to see the difference he can make.

Nice to see some love for Tavon, hasn’t had many positive mentions over the first few weeks.

S Tavon Wilson: Fighting for a roster spot, he had a really nice interception of QB Josh Freeman on the goal line, batting a slant pass up in the air, then corraling the ball and heading upfield.
