Any lingering fears stemming from Brady’s brief absence were quelled Thursday afternoon. Wearing a brace on his left knee, the same one he’s worn since tearing his ACL in the 2008 season opener, the quarterback returned to practice and showed no lingering effects. In 7-on-7 dills, he completed his fist six passes and did not appear to have a noticeable limp. The rest of the joint session with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was completed at half speed.

How Does Jamie Collins Fit into the Patriots Defense in 2013? | Bleacher Report
Good read from Frenz breaking down Collins. Very interested to watch him tomorrow night, especially in coverage. I think the Pats aren’t tipping their hand in all the ways they can use him, but if he can make strides and help deal with tight ends, he’ll be worth his weight in gold.

The most impressive facet of the Patriots’ 31-22 victory over the Eagles was the play of New England’s offensive line. Outside of third-stringer Will Svitek having to start at right guard, the unit was sensational in both phases of the game. The running holes were huge, and Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett had clear passing lanes. This is the first time in a few years the Patriots have stability on the offensive line, and the unit should be one of the league’s best. Nate Solder, Logan Mankins, underrated Ryan Wendell and Sebastian Vollmer are healthy and playing at a high level.

We’ve touched on the athleticism of linebacker Jamie Collins, the Patriots’ top draft pick, and we got a good look at a different element of his game on Wednesday – power. In 7-on-7 passing drills in the red zone, Collins was called upon to cover tight end Tom Crabtree and his powerful jam knocked Crabtree off his route, effectively disrupting the timing of the play as the pass fell incomplete. The jam not only seemed to impact Crabtree, but also another receiver who was aligned on the left side who was forced to alter his route.

The Patriots defense has been hammered from a statistical perspective all year long, however there’s one statistical ranking that could be a positive sign for this weekend’s matchup against the Ravens. Football Outsiders has the Pats ranked 4th overall in pass coverage on running backs. Against the Ravens with Ray Rice as their leading receiver […]
