Patriots Mini Camp Wrap: Linebackers Edition

June 19, 2010 by Mike Dussault

We now enter the final calm before the NFL season starts, the last month when everyone, including reporters go on vacation. The NFL is darkest just before the dawn of a new season falls.

With that in mind we’ve gotten a glimpse of who’s working where and what we can expect to look for in training camp. We start with what will surely be the most interesting of camp battles, the linebackers.

Bill Belichick built his championship defenses at the Giants and Patriots around it’s linebacker corps. Lawrence Taylor, Pepper Johnson, Harry Carson and Carl Banks in New York. Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, Willie McGinest, Ted Johnson and Roman Phifer in New England.

Belichick is now trying to build another set of championship linebackers. Jerod Mayo is the centerpiece. Gary Guyton has good size, and can cover like Phifer did. Brandon Spikes and Jermaine Cunningham are the Gator rookies. Tyrone McKenzie and Shawn Crable, the wild cards. Tully Banta-Cain, Derrick Burgess and Rob Ninkovich the vets.

The Patriots current crop looks promising, but is unproven.

Patriots Schwag Hunt: Stop! Danger Ahead! Patriots Country

It’s pretty clear, this piece of schwag ain’t messing around. You’ve been warned fans of other teams, there’s danger ahead because it’s Patriots Country. What exactly is the danger? I’m not really sure. We’ll kick your ass? I mean I think everyone can apreciate the warning. If I’m a Patriots fan can I continue? I don’t even know if I’d want to, because clearly any fan who has this means business and could be a bit of a loose cannon.

Let’s Not Forget the Patriots Dynasty Was Already Declared Dead, Y’all!

Let’s Not Forget the Patriots Dynasty Was Already Declared Dead, Y’all!

Above is a previously depressing/now comical article from Deadspin declaring the Patriots Dynasty D.E.A.D.. I’ve said it many times, until BB and TFB are gone the Patriots will be contenders, it’s just as simple as that.

Patriots Schwag Hunt: Mr. Pat-atoeHead

Sometimes the best part of Schwag Hunt is the description. Someone gets paid to write these and here’s what they came up with for this one:

This officially licensed New England Patriots Mr. Potato Head is designed for collectors and fans of all ages. Standing 6” tall, this player is the perfect size for proudly displaying on a shelf or playing “mix and match” to create a variety of hilarious combinations.

When I think of my Mr. Pat-atoeHead the first emotion that comes to mind is certainly pride. What better way to represent the Patriots and all they represent than a toy left-handed potatoe whose eyes extend out further than his facemask? The only thing we’re left to ponder is whether or not there’s a Mrs. Pat-atoeHead?

Hat Tip to @SkinlessJSN for tracking down this bad boy.

The Patriots Cycle Was Completed in 2010

I was watching the America’s Game video for the 2003 Patriots and was reminded of something that I realized after the Pats crapped the bed against the Ravens in 2009. During the last decade of dominance for the New England Patriots they experienced every possible ending to a season: Super Bowl Champs: 2001, 2003, 2004 […]
