Tweets of Note: 2020 Camp -#5 8/21

August 21, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

The week has flown by and Friday’s practice has now been and gone. A lighter session today in just shells and helmets, probably a good thing given how big the absent list has grown over the last few days.

Here’s today’s Tweets of Note.

Patriots’ QB Jarrett Stidham was taken to a local hospital on Thursday for precautionary tests on his upper leg that came back negative, per league sources. Stidham returned to the team this morning and went through practice Friday, though with a lighter load than usual.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 21, 2020

Now, this wasn’t something I was expecting, Stidham looks to have avoided a serious leg injury following a visit to the hospital yesterday. He was at practice but only participated in a few drills with the majority of reps going to Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer.

Tweets of Note: 2020 Camp -#4 8/20

August 20, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

After a lighter session yesterday, the Patriots were back in pads on the practice field. Can you believe it’s just over three weeks until the first game of the season against Miami?

Here are the Tweets of Note from the fourth media attended practice.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 20, 2020

Many will be glad to hear that UDFA WR Jeff Thomas finally graced the practice field today for the first time. He was involved in the early drills before being limited for the remainder of the session today.

Tweets of Note: 2020 Camp -#3 8/19

August 19, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Following two straight days in pads, the players wore shells for practice today, a sign of workload management as we hit mid-week.

I present today’s Tweets of Note along with my thoughts:

Julian Edelman is here at practice. N’Keal Harry and Derek Rivers are absent. Sony Michel, Lamar Miller, Anfernee Jennings, Jeff Thomas, Beau Allen and Tashawn Bower remain absent.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) August 19, 2020

The good bit of news regarding attendance was that a limited Julian Edelman yesterday was able to fully participate today. The bad news is that the absent list has grown by two.

Tweets of Note: 2020 Camp – Padded Practice #2

August 18, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

And just like that, day two of padded practice is in the books. The weather looked good in Foxborough earlier today for the second consecutive media attended practice.

Here are today’s Tweets of Note:

Tough start for Jarrett Stidham today. He’s been intercepted by Michael Jackson, Stephon Gilmore and Kyle Dugger.

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 18, 2020

Jarrett Stidham was intercepted three times. He also had one of the best throws of the day — a sideline laser to Damiere Byrd in 11-on-11 work. Nice timing between QB and WR, with protection holding up. Later, he decisively found Mohamed Sanu up right side in 11-on-11s.

Patriots Sunday supplement 8/16

August 16, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Today marked the end of the Patriots ‘OTA’-like return to camp practices, sessions which allowed veterans and rookies to settle into a new regime as mandated by the league. The first taste of football we’ve had since the end of last season has been great, but really, we’re all excited about the session tomorrow.

Why? Because tomorrow, the Patriots will have their first fully padded practice of camp, and it will be the first time any media (other than the Patriots Unfiltered crew) will be allowed to attend. Make sure you keep an eye out for the return of ‘Tweets of Note’ on the blog tomorrow.

Patriots transaction news – 08/11

August 11, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Following a busy couple of days regarding transactions, let’s take a look at the current status of the Patriots signings/roster moves.

TE Jordan Leggett

Reported first by Field Yates, the deal to sign free agent TE Jordan Leggett is off. The reason why the deal couldn’t be completed hasn’t been released, but after an agreement was initially reached yesterday, it points to a potential failure at either the Covid-19 testing or physical stage of due diligence. Either way, he won’t be a Patriot this season.

The Patriots will not be signing TE Jordan Leggett, per source.

The team could look at other available options to add depth at the position, with Dalton Keene and Devin Asiasi projecting for key roles as rookies.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) August 11, 2020

It’s a shame this move didn’t work out, I was curious to see how Leggett got on in camp, now (once all projected signings are confirmed) the Patriots have one remaining roster spot for training camp, and I expect them to bring in someone else at the position, they’ve recently shown interest in FA Delanie Walker.

Current TE’s- Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Ryan Izzo, Jake Burt

Patriots 53-Man Roster 4.0

August 27, 2018 by Mike Dussault

With Kenny Britt and Eddie Pleasant both getting cut, there are two open spots on my roster projection since last time. The areas of biggest question are at cornerback where the Pats have a logjam of young promising players, a couple of whom were significant draft picks.

Here’s the rundown of the latest 53-man projection and where I could see some Labor Day additions after other teams cut down.

QB (2) T.Brady, B.Hoyer – No change.

RB (5) R.Burkhead, S.Michel, J.Develin, J.Hill, J.White – No change. Cut/Re-sign Bolden.

WR (4) C.Hogan, P.Dorsett, C.Patterson, M.Slater – I just can’t make a case for McCarron or Berrios at this point. Really the guy who’s impressed me the most of the low end receivers is Devin Lucien, but he has yet to get a big boy audition so I don’t think he’s a factor either. I don’t foresee a big free agent signing but I’d bet they take a flier on someone after cutdowns.

TE (3) R.Gronkowski, D.Allen, J.Hollister – No change. Hope Hollister is healthy, they’ll need him weeks 1-4 to play an inside receiver role.

C (1) D.Andrews
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, T.Karras
T (4) T.Brown, M.Cannon, L.Waddle, U.John – John has emerged as the third tackle with Cannon out, he could sneak on especially after Waddle got benched against the Panthers. Cannon’s return would be a huge boost and likely push John off.

DE (4) T.Flowers, A.Clayborn, D.Wise, D.Rivers – Grissom can be cut and re-signed like last year. Excited about this group’s development, it’s a good mix and we haven’t even seen Flowers out there in weeks.

DT (5) M.Brown, D.Shelton, L.Guy, V.Valentine, A.Butler — I do wonder if Brown is in danger of getting cut or traded. I love Valentine and feel he’s a better schematic fit. Either way, Brown is clearly the 3rd DT now.

ILB(4) D.Hightower, E.Roberts, J.Bentley, N.Grigsby
OLB(3) K.VanNoy, M.Flowers, B.King

CB (7) S.Gilmore, E.Rowe, J.McCourty, C.Jones, D.Dawson, J.Jones, J.Jackson: Hardest spot on the roster right now and I can’t really justify keeping all these guys. Really, the one in the most danger might just be Jason McCourty. I’d predict Gilmore-Rowe-C. Jones might be the top trio out of the gate. I just love JC Jackson so he gets one of the two new roster spots even though there’s just too many players here.

SS (3) P.Chung, J.Richards, N.Ebner
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon – Thought Pleasant could get on via special teams and they gave him a long look. He’s an early cut out of respect to catch on elsewhere.

ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona

SUSP: Julian Edelman

Patriots vs. Raiders Snow Bowl: The Grand Finale

Here’s the final two videos of the TV broadcast of the Snow Bowl game. I’d post the early parts of the game, but figured it would be better to just cut to the interesting parts. How long ago this seems now…
