Patriots Today – Belichick breaks down Pats-Bills

Break it down for me, BB. Recommended viewing for those who think Chandler Jones had a bad game, or the flock of Arrington haters.

Jones might not be the biggest or strongest interior defensive lineman in the 2013 draft class, but he won’t be outworked by any of them –- and he’s one of the most productive defensive linemen in the country. Double-digit sack totals are rare for players lining up between the tackles, but Jones was able to accomplish that feat in 2012 using the relentlessness and consistent leverage that will give him a shot to make it at the next level.

Round 7, Pick 226: Chris Jones, DT, Bowling Green | Patriots 2013 Mock Draft: Predictions for Day 3 | Bleacher Report

Pats just picked up Chris Jones, a rookie I had my eye on this draft season.

ReFo: NE @ BUF, Week 1 | ProFootballFocus.com

All four starting defensive linemen graded in the positive against the run, led by DT Vince Wilfork ( 3.6) and DE Rob Ninkovich ( 2.4). Wilfork had his way with left guard Colin Brown as he maneuvered him into running lanes and consistently pushed him back at the point of attack. He set the tone for their battle at the 10:18 mark in the first quarter and never looked back. Ninkovich was often the player being targeted by Manuel’s option action in the backfield, but he still managed to get in on seven tackles, including six stops. He always seemed to be ready for whatever the Bills threw at him, whether it was taking a great angle to cut off the flat route to C.J. Spiller with 4:12 to go in the third, or having the awareness to shake WR Stevie Johnson’s back side cutoff in order to get in on the tackle on the first play of the fourth quarter. Ninkovich appeared to be one step ahead of the Bills on Sunday.

Patriots had plenty to like in uneven win – Sports – The Boston Globe

The Bills disguised their pressure really well with their zone blitzes, often showing big blitz but then rushing only four or five defenders. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, listed at 331 pounds, was surprisingly nimble when dropping into coverage, and played the role of QB spy on a half-dozen snaps. They also showed a “sugar” rush on a handful of snaps, in which each player in the front seven began the play in a two-point stance, making it tough to determine who was rushing the quarterback. The offensive line’s performance looked much better on the film than it felt at the game. The line opened several big holes for Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen up the left middle behind Logan Mankins, Ryan Wendell, and Nate Solder. Vereen had runs of 19, 20, and 21 yards, and Ridley had a 20-yarder, all to the left-middle.

It was comeback No. 36 for Tom Brady. On a day when the Buffalo Bills had him on the move, Brady delivered when the Patriots needed it most, marking the 36th time he has led the team to a victory from a fourth-quarter deficit or tie. How’s this for clutch? On the Patriots’ final drive, which produced the game-winning field-goal, Brady was 7-of-7 for 36 yards.

Now, when [Rob] Gronkowski gets back, I think a lot of that gets better more quickly because he’ll draw so much coverage. But I think Thompkins has an ability to separate and get open. Dobson, who didn’t play, I think has big time ability in size,” Mayock said. “I think what you’re looking at, and the reason they did this is my guess, is that over time, they are going to get better. And Tom Brady is the kind of guy that can get them a win like yesterday when they had all they could handle and more, but they still got the win, and try to allow these guys time to develop.

Patriots adjusted to Dolphins’ blitz – The Boston Globe

Patriots adjusted to Dolphins’ blitz – The Boston Globe Great stuff from Bedard: O’Brien and Brady have to be credited for changing course at halftime. O’Brien saw what the Dolphins were doing and decided to make things easier on his quarterback. In the first half, the Patriots ran just two plays with zero running backs […]
