I played with a lot of great players, whether that was Kevin Faulk or Randy Moss or Rodney Harrison, but Wes has been truly the greatest teammate you could possibly have,” Brady said. “His commitment to the team, his selflessness … When Wes clears out on a route, he clears out the route better than anybody I’ve ever seen. He knows he’s not getting the ball, but he almost takes as much pride in that as he does on the 6-yard option route to get open. That’s everything you need to know about Wes, you know? That’s the best part about him. Whatever you need me to do, that’s what he’s going to do. He does it every day in practice, and I feel that’s what has always set him apart.

There’s no denying the fact that he’s been one of the most dominant receivers in the league over the last five seasons, but considering history and the tendencies of the voters, a signature postseason moment (as well as a chance to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy) would provide Welker with the sort of definitive final line of his resume that could ensure he makes the Hall.

patriots – Why this postseason is so important for Wes Welker – WEEI | Christopher Price

Welker’s post-season numbers: 53 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns. But let’s throw out the 27 catches for 213 yards in 2007. That leaves 2010, when he sat the opening series due to the feet comments directed toward Rex, and then last season where the missed catch that might’ve sealed another Lombardi still haunts us all. Welker really does need a signature playoff run and given the frustrating post-seasons he’s had, including 2009 where he was hurt against the Texans in Week 17 and missed the rest of the season, this could be one of his last chances to really define his career with a Super Bowl title.

Wes Welker became the first player in NFL history to have 100 pass receptions in five seasons when he caught a 12-yard pass from Tom Brady in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s game against the 49ers, breaking a tie with Rice, Harrison, and Marshall – who joined the club last Sunday.

When the Patriots were splitting snaps between Welker and Julian Edelman in the first two games of the season, one wondered if perhaps Welker’s importance to the offense would be lessened. If anything, it’s gone in the other direction. With Edelman missing time because of a hand injury, Welker didn’t have to split reps and has shown he is still the go-to guy in the got-to-have-it situations – and all situations for that matter.

“I think it was kind of directed at, towards me and Deion [Branch] a little bit,“ Welker said today on WEEI’s Mut and Merloni show. "We were giving him a hard time that his knee was down and we didn’t know what he was doing on the bench over there. He better get his butt up and get back out on the field because his knee was down and so he’s like, ‘what are you talking about, I was in.’ So I think they caught him at a perfect moment where we were just kind of just jawing back and forth and things like that.”

New England Patriots Gameplan: Week 11 vs. Buffalo Bills

It’s been just two months since the Patriots last saw the Bills and put 500 yards up on them, but now the Patriots are a different team, especially on offense, and must find new avenues to deal with Rex Ryan. The good news is that Sebastian Vollmer , Marcus Cannon and Tre Jackson all returned […]
