Daily training camp overreaction: Kamar Aiken ready to dominate all comers – Going Deep – Boston.com

At 6’2" and 215 pounds, Aiken has the kind of size that’s been missing from the Patriots depth chart at receiver for the past few years as the team has struggled to find players to win matchups on the outside. Over the first few days of camp, we’ve seen him line up both outside and in the slot. He has shown an impressive ability to get off jams and to make catches in traffic. His drops have been few and far between. That’s about as positive a review as a receiver can get at this point.

Standouts RG Marcus Cannon – Held his ground against the power of DL Tommy Kelly (6-6, 310) and quickness of DEs Jermaine Cunningham (6-3, 252) and Justin Francis (6-4, 270). Kelly powered through him on one rep, but Cannon – stepping in for starter Dan Connolly (apparently not yet fully cleared for contact after offseason shoulder surgery) for most of the practice – looks like he’s off to a strong start in camp.

Chandler Jones continues to look very good out on the field and with the added muscle he’s added in the off-season, looks to make a big jump in play from Year 1 to Year 2. He was showcasing his athleticism by wowing the crowd with one handed catches during the warm up session.

The combination of size, soft hands, efficient route-running and pure athleticism were all on display on Saturday. If Dobson continues to build off his strong start to camp, he’ll be well on his way to making a big impact as a rookie.

The Patriots affixed small cameras to the helmets of each of their quarterbacks for practice, something they’ll use to study the film later in the day. In addition, a ladder was placed in the end zone for a member of the video staff to stand atop and follow each of the quarterbacks in their movements during team drills.

Aaron Dobson started the day well in receiving drills, exhibiting excellent body control along the sideline and strong hands. His route-running looks improved as well, sharp cuts and smooth hips while playing against air. Dobson started slow in live action, not earning a target in the first set of 7v7 drills, but finished strong. He made five catches on six targets, the lone miss coming on a fantastic interception from Alfonzo Dennard. Dennard stayed in phase on Dobson’s “go” route and was able to high-point the ball and come down with the pick.

Week 1 Recap: The Patriots run all over the Miami Dolphins

The Patriots started their 2020 season on the right foot, as they took care of business and defeated the Miami Dolphins by a score of 21-11. This was Cam Newton’s first game since September 12th, 2019. The former MVP performed well, shook off some early rust, and helped propel the Patriots to victory. The new-look […]
