Report: Patriots reach out to Steve Smith

March 13, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Teams reaching out on WR Steve Smith: Ravens, Patriots, Chargers, Redskins, Seahawks. Smith expected to talk to Ravens’ Gary Kubiak tonight.

Yup, I’m all over this one, he’d be just the shot of aggressive attitude I feel like the passing game needs. He’d be motivated too, that’s for sure.

Early reports are that the Ravens are “the favorite” to land him, whatever that means, but when you have TFB and you reach out to a receiver they’d be smart to listen.

Here we go: Former Panthers WR Steve Smith is scheduled to fly tonight to Baltimore to spend Friday meeting with Ravens, per source.

The Patriots must find an outside wide receiver to help their inside passing game. If they draft a wideout – no matter how talented – his ability to help them in 2011 will be limited due to a lack of understanding of the offense. The Patriots need a veteran player who can keep up with where their offense is right now. They need someone who can hit the ground running.

So as the Patriots prepare their need list, they will know the free-agent or trade market can solve their receiver need, and the draft will have to solve their issues on defense. Marrying the draft with free agency is another element that should be happening for every team right now. The organizations that do this the best will have the best offseasons.

Breaking Down the Patriots’ Cornerbacks

The Patriots came away with yet another relatively easy victory Sunday, this time dispatching the Bills thanks to another stellar performance by Tom Brady and the offense. The defense held its own after a discouraging opening drive, but issues remained throughout the game that have been evident throughout the season. While Malcolm Butler is playing […]
