Breaking Down Rob Ninkovich’s Clutch Plays for New England Patriots | Bleacher Report

Nice breakdown from Frenz. You can say a lot of bad things about the Patriots defense but Ninkovich is not among them. He’s making clutch plays and really excelling in the new Patriots defensive scheme.

Rob Ninkovich’s forced fumble on Mark Sanchez in overtime was his fourth of the season. Only Mike Vrabel (5) had more in one season than Ninkovich.

Bottom Line Apparel presents the Bottom Line Patriots Performer

This week we’ve got to give Rob Ninkovich some love. He had two back to back lights out performances not only stopping the run, but getting after the quarterback and forcing turnovers.

Ninkovich is such a great second generation example of a Belichick Patriots player. A free agent castoff he managed to stick around and has slowly become one of the key cogs in the Patriots defense. His versatility is a huge factor in enabling the defense to do so much without changing personnel like they used to.

Patriots – What we learned Sunday: With season in doubt, defense didn’t rest – WEEI | Christopher Price

Some love for Ninkovich…

On a day when there were several defensive standouts for New England, Ninkovich was among the best. He finished with seven tackles (four solo), as well as his first sack of the season and a forced fumble. He was at his best in a terrific back-to-back sequence late in the third quarter. With the Bills in a first-and-10 at their own 42, he collapsed a rushing lane and brought Fred Jackson down two yards behind the line of scrimmage. He followed that up with a sack – a pure speed job where he beat his man off the edge and brought down Fitzpatrick from behind. “I hold myself accountable for the previous couple of games [and] I didn’t feel like I was active enough in just changing things up on the offense,” Ninkovich said when asked about his work this year. “I was able to go out there and change up my rush styles and change up my inside-outside moves, what I was going to do previously coming into this game. Just get back to more energetic and just getting after the ball. That was my mentality coming into this game.”

I mean, I’m pretty strong. I’ve always been pretty strong, so I think that tight ends, I’ve been able to handle them pretty well; tackles, you know, both of them at the same time, I should be alright,” he continued. “I’ve been doing it for a long time, and it’s just something that you work on. You get your techniques right, you get your hand placement right, and especially in that position, it’s more about technique and leverage then it is just brute strength.

Therein lies the biggest question, can Ninkovich hold up against a tight end and a tackle at the point of attack? It will certainly be interesting to watch.
