patriots – Motto zone: Patriots’ ‘Do your job’ goes viral – WEEI | Christopher Price

patriots – Motto zone: Patriots’ ‘Do your job’ goes viral – WEEI | Christopher Price

Enjoyed this read from Chris Price about the history of DO YOUR JOB. I’d like to think I was ahead of the curve in 2010 when I started selling DO YOUR JOB tees long before the Patriots got on board with it being the team’s go-to marketing slogan. Of course, and I don’t like to speculate, but perhaps it had something to do with why the NFL issued a cease and desist to my little old Tumblr blog to stop selling them. Now every single Patriots internet site out there is selling some kind of Patriots tee and selling thousands of them. How can the NFL come after me and no one else? It will always be something I wonder.

Marcell Dareus, Aaron Williams of Buffalo Bills take jab at New England Patriots ahead of showdown

Marcell Dareus, Aaron Williams of Buffalo Bills take jab at New England Patriots ahead of showdown

I’m very excited for this weekend’s game and it’s clear to see the players are too. Rex always has his defense ready to face the Patriots and more often than not his young unproven quarterback seems to play well against us. The Bills have very much taken on the bravado of Rex and his disdain for the Patriots. That’s fine. It’s what makes the regular season fun, but let’s pump the brakes a little here.

The Patriots have lost at AFC East game in September in four of the last six seasons. In 2013 they squeaked out wins over the Bills and Jets by a combined five points. So let’s not make this game to be more than we should. The Bills need this game more than the Patriots do, because they’re at home. But even a decisive Bills win this weekend doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot.

Winning in September is one thing, but if you really want to prove something about your season Bills, you’ll have to beat New England in New England on November 23rd. And not just that, you have to hold serve against teams that aren’t as easy to get fired up for.

Beating the Patriots on the road hasn’t been some impossible task for the AFC East. All three of the other teams have done it in the last six seasons. But the big difference is none of them have won a meaningful regular season game in Foxboro since the Wildcat game of 2008.

I’d say Sunday’s game is a 50-50 coin toss and will likely come down to the last possession, but make no mistake, the pressure is on the Bills not the Patriots.

Pats Posits: Will there be another shocking move over Labor Day Weekend?

September 4, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I remember sitting in a diner getting a late breakfast over Labor Day weekend 2009 when the shocking news of Richard Seymour getting traded to the Raiders broke. The Pats had already lost a bunch of talent that offseason – Harrison/Bruschi retired, Vrabel and Ellis Hobbs were traded – the defensive rebuild was in full effect. Trading Seymour, one of the only elite players still in their prime left was a jaw-dropper.

But that’s just how the Pats do business and we shouldn’t be surprised if a similar move happens this weekend. Here are some thoughts on who it could be and other areas of interest as we start to gear up for the start of another season.

– Chandler Jones makes some sense. First, defensive end depth is very solid. They would still be better than last year with Ninkovich/Sheard/Flowers as the top three. Second, Jones will be due $7.79 million next year and then would require another huge contract. I like Chandler as a player more than most but I don’t think the 2015 Pats would be much worse-off without him. The Pats will need 2nd and 3rd round picks next year to make up for the lack of a first. If someone dangled a 2nd for Chandler they might have to take it.

– But the cap savings on Chandler are minimal this year, that’s why it might be a season too soon to move him.

– I’m not as sold on moving one of the tackles. Vollmer could make sense but I don’t want to move Solder. Given Vollmer’s injury history, would anyone be comfortable with Cannon and Fleming as our starting tackles? That’d be a very real possibility if they traded Solder. Moving Vollmer would save $3.4 million.

– Cannon could be another guy who goes, but that’d only open up $800K of cap space.

– Patrick Chung just got extended but cutting him would open up almost $2 million. With great strong safety depth I wouldn’t totally rule it out.

– Lotta people scrambling to find a fullback to replace James Develin but I don’t really see it. When they find a fullback they like and who fits, they use him but it’s not like the position is absolutely necessary to their offense. Nice piece to have but I believe they can plug Hooman in or honestly Shaq Mason (if he’s not starting at guard) into that kind of blocking role.

– I just don’t see Mike Williams making the team despite trading for him. Still see him as more a tackle than TE.

Patriots 53-Man Roster: Preseason Week 2 Edition

August 15, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Some movement this week on the 53-man roster after getting a closer look at some guys against the Packers.

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo

RB (5) B.Bolden, T.Cadet, J.White, J.Gray, J.Develin (Blount SUSP Week 1)

WR (6) J.Edelman, B.LaFell, D.Amendola, B.Gibson, B.Tyms, M.Slater – Gibson in, Dobson out.

TE (3) R.Gronkowski, S.Chandler, M.Hoomanawanui

C  (2) B.Stork, D.Andrews – added Andrews after he looked okay in action at guard. Groom for interior swing role.

G  (3) T.Jackson, S.Mason, R.Wendell – Can Wendell play LG is the biggest question.

T  (4) M.Cannon, N.Solder, S.Vollmer, C.Fleming

DE (5) R.Ninkovich, C.Jones, J.Sheard, T.Flowers, G.Grissom

DT (4) S.Siliga, M.Brown, A.Johnson, D.Easley – Johnson vs. Branch is the key battle down the stretch. Branch not doing himself any favors early in camp. Might cut him just to avoid guaranteeing his salary.  Casey Walker in that mix now as well.

ILB(3) J.Mayo, J.Freeny, J.Morris – Freeny played a lot but wasn’t great on defense. His role will be mostly special teams. Morris the 53rd man.

OLB(3) J.Collins, D.Hightower, D.Fleming – Fleming one to watch this week if he gets on the field.

CB (5) M.Butler, T.Brown, R. McClain, L.Ryan, D.Roberts – Roberts over Fletcher.

SS (3) P.Chung, J.Richards, N.Ebner – Wilson out.

FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon

ST (3) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona

PUP in season (unavail until Week 6) – Chris Jones, Dane Fletcher

Priority Practice Squad: Rufus Johnson, Zach Moore, Eric Martin

Total players: 53

New Faces Standing Out at New England Patriots Training Camp

New one up on Athlon, taking a look at some of the new guys who have stood out in the first four practices. Obviously a long way to go, but a good start is a good start.

Did the NFL Want Tom Brady’s Phone Or Not?

Did the NFL Want Tom Brady’s Phone Or Not?

Uncovered this detail yesterday and it blew up on twitter, but not enough for any major outlets to pick up on it. Seems very significant to debunking how big a deal Brady’s cellphone was.

Opinion: I Think Hightower’s A Goner

First off, I’m not writing this to make you mad. I’m really not. It’s just the way I feel, not in a “woah is us” or “we’re doomed” kind of trolling way, but just in an “I’ve been doing this so long I think this is how it’s going to play out” kind of deal. […]
