The line received a surge in athleticism in the addition of first-round pick Chandler Jones, who has looked sharp so far in camp. He appears ready to bookend the line with Rob Ninkovich, who has shed the linebacker title in favor of playing more from a three-point stance (although head coach Bill Belichick noted that Ninkovich has really always been, and remains, an end-of-the-line player). Behind those two, the Patriots have a spattering of potential backups, including Jermaine Cunningham, Trevor Scott, Jake Bequette, and even Brandon Deaderick, who also may be used on the interior of the line. Inside, things are built around hulking nose tackle Vince Wilfork. Wilfork remains a defensive anchor, and both Kyle Love and Ron Brace have impressed too.

15th!!?? There’s no arguing with some of the classic, iconic looks of teams like the Packers, Cowboys, Steelers and Raiders, but the new Chargers uniforms!?!??!

No matter how much you like the old Pat Patriot logo – and a certain uniform columnist likes it a lot – there’s no denying that the Pats are Flying Elvis’ team now. And it’s not just because they’ve been so successful on the field in the Elvis era – it’s a decent design that has held up well. There’s one major problem, though: those miserable side panels on the jersey. Woof!

This pretty much sums it up. If I had to add a couple secondary things they would be:

1. Interior Line – who is where if Mankins is indeed back. Safe bet it’s Dan Connolly at RG, but Wendell or Koppen at center.

2. Trickle Down effect of no Chung – Yes, Wilson and Gregory start but who takes over at the Money position? Will Allen, if he plays, could get a long look. What about Nate Ebner? Is him playing on defense actually on the table? Lots of insight should come from who plays when.

Asked a question about longtime cornerback Will Allen and his performance at safety in the preseason, Boyer touched on how the team looks for players with flexibility. “One of the things we’ll look for is versatility with guys, with position flexibility. Obviously the more you can do position-wise, it’s going to be more valuable to our team. Will is a good example. Kyle Arrington is a good example. Sterling Moore is a good example. Those are guys we’ve moved around a little bit,” he said.
