New England Patriots Game Plan: Buffalo Bills

September 24, 2010 by Mike Dussault

We’ve all had it pounded into our heads this week that theBuffalo Bills "are just what the Patriots need right now", with constant reminders that the Pats have beaten them thirteen times in a row. No one is giving the Bills a chance, and that’s a little scary.

On paper the Bills look like one of the worst teams in the NFL and will be starting a new quarterback (Ryan Fitzpatrick). All signs do seem to point to a Patriots blow out, but for some reason I can shake this nervous feeling about the game.

Maybe it’s because the Patriots laid a collective team turd against the Jets that brought back memories of second halves death plunges in 2009. And let’s not forget the Bills did beat both the Dolphins and Jets last year. Really, the Patriots dominance over the Bills has been a big reason why they’ve also dominated the AFC East. That cannot be taken for granted.

The truth is that if somehow the Patriots lose this game it would be devastating, especially with Miami on deck. The game plan for how to avoid that after the jump…

Time to Stop Crying About The Jets and Focus on the Bills

September 21, 2010 by Mike Dussault

The Bills have not beaten the Patriots since the 2003 opener so it might be easy to look past them this week. But here’s a couple reminders…

  • The Bills should’ve beaten the Patriots in last years opener.
  • The Bills beat both the Dolphins and the Jets last year.

I know it’s hard to get excited to watch the Patriots play a team they’ve beaten 13 straight times, but that streak is going to end at some point. If it’s this weekend it could be catastrophic for the Pats division chances, especially if Miami moves to 3-0 (2-0 in AFCE).

We look at the Bills and we see a team that will have a new quarterback, and ranks dead last in the NFL in almost every offensive category. But let’s not forget the Patriots are a young team on defense, and this Bills team is going to run a fair share of spread offense, and have three running backs that can all move the ball.

The Patriots should win this game, especially being at home. But young teams often take games they perceive as “easy” lightly. This will not be a cakewalk. Our young secondary and run stoppers will be tested.

The Jets game is over. This Sunday’s game against the Bills is as close to must win as you can get in week three.

Why are you so confident that BB will trade out of the first round? The value of the fifth year contract option makes first round picks much more valuable than second rounders since you get an extra year out of the rookie deal (Nate Solder’s situation for example). Also, looking back to the drafts after the 2003 and 2004 SB wins, BB used both of those picks (and got great value out of them too).

Very valid points and I think the 5th year option certainly does count for something. Look, I’d prefer they use the pick, but I just think that given the draft’s current set up, with the Pats having the last pick of the first day, it will an extremely in-demand slot. If a team is willing […]
