buffalo bills

I usually don’t post much from Perez Florio on here because, well, I just don’t think he really knows what he’s talking about, at least when it comes to the Patriots.

He’s a master of self promotion and of course you have to respect a guy who went from “dude with a blog” to “dude on NBC”, but I’d love a moratorium on all Patriots related posts and this video is just another example of why.

Go to the 3:30 mark to hear Florio relay Gregg Rosenthal’s assertion that Patriots were in a 4-3 defense “at least half the time if not more” in 2010.

Um, wrong.  I know it, Mike Reiss knows it, and everyone out there who considers themselves a knowledgeable Patriots fan should know it.

I’ll let Reiss tell you how many snaps the Pats were actually in a 4-3 in 2010:

The Patriots lined up in the 4-3 on only three of 1,056 defensive plays last season.

The Bills overtaking the Patriots for second place in the division is just the icing on top.

Enjoy! Or not.

Something maybe to note for Patriots fans. Have to say I hate Merriman, but he’s got an A+ linebacker look.

New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills defensive series

Time for some defensive film work, and there’s good stuff here to watch of some of the wild cards for 2011.. Jarrad Page, Dane Fletcher and Eric Moore…

NFLN Playbook: Pats-Bills Breakdown

NFLN Playbook: Pats-Bills Breakdown

Mike Mayock makes a pretty good point at the end of this segment. Something to the effect of “It begs the question in a one and done situation if [the Patriots] turn it over a couple times, are they as good as we think they are or is it a little manufactured?

If the Patriots don’t win the Super Bowl this year, and it’s far from a lock that they’re going to, it will most likely be because their offense turns the ball over and their defense doesn’t get the turnovers they’ve become so accustomed to.

Notes on a fantastic regular season: Patriots tie up division and number one seed

December 27, 2010 by Mike Dussault

I know there’s still one game to be played but for all intents and purposes we can say goodbye to the 2010 regular season for the Patriots.

I’ve always tried to make it a point to enjoy the regular season as much as possible because if you base your fan satisfaction solely by how the season ends you’re probably going to be disappointed most of the time.

This 2010 Patriots season has been remarkable.  We didn’t know what we had with the defense, and even though statistically they were probably worse than any of us expected, this team will finish with the best record in the AFC. Amazing.

The list of teams they beat is impressive. Not always dominating, but close, heart-filled victories with players making clutch plays. And sometimes dominating too.

Even I would’ve thought 13-3 or 14-2 was a little too optimistic of a record prediction given the schedule the Pats faced. Throw in the fact that they jettisoned Randy Moss mid-season, and it was a memorable season that surely has a place alongside the great regular seasons of the last decade.

Being a Pats fan is all about surprises, and this year I think just about everyone can say the 2010 Pats have been surprising to say the least.

Offensively they’re just as unstoppable as the 2007 team was, yet this group looks like it’s peaking as the playoffs start, whereas the previous team began to fizzle.

Defensively they gained a ton of great experience in a lot of big games in the national spotlight. They performed well every single time. What the defense lacked they made up for by getting turnovers, lots of them. The pass rush continues to be a concern due to injuries and inconsistency. Look for that to again be an area of focus in the offseason.

This is what a rebuilding year looks like in New England. The future looks even brighter, but for now there are three more games to be won.
