Defensive Backs Snap Graph 11/17

What can we determine from what we see here?  Sergio Brown and Patrick Chung ate into James Sanders’ play time a bit this past weekend. Chung played a lot of nickel corner at the expense of Jonathan Wilhite. Brown came on the field before Wilhite did as well. Not sure what this is a reflection of, especially since Wilhite looked okay against the Browns.

McCourty/Meriweather/Arrington don’t leave the field and I suspect Chung might be the same way if he wasn’t cramping/coming back from an injury.

Excel made a good choice in assigning Darius Butler’s line the color brown, we have no reason to suspect that he’ll get back into a heavy playtime rotation any time soon. That of course is unless the Pat decide to put 8 defensive backs on the field against Peyton Manning.

For those who missed it here’s Brandon Meriweather’s hit on Todd Heap. Is that a tooth that flies out?

Look I’m not going to condone this hit. Meriweather will be lucky to escape with a fine…

BUT…

This hit, along with a few others yesterday, are all the buzz today. Meriweather wasn’t the only Patriot to blast a Raven receiver. There was also Patchung! blasting Derrick Mason to hold the Ravens to a Field Goal.

So it’s a safe bet that a lot of NFL receivers are very aware this morning that the Patriots have some physical defensive backs. You can’t underestimate the effect that can have for a defense.

You don’t want to be known as cheap shot artists or head hunters, but you do want to be known as a physical defense that can intimidate opposing receivers.

Snaps: Jones quickly part of core – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Snaps: Jones quickly part of core – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston Love me the defensive snap posts from Reiss… The Patriots gave starting linebackers Brandon Spikes (middle), Dont’a Hightower (strong) and Jerod Mayo (weak) a chance for extended work as they were the only linebackers to play in the first half. The […]
