Belichick breaks down win over Houston
Belichick breaks down win over Houston
What better way to kick off a Thursday than a Gronkapalooza film breakdown from BB?
Also a nice breakdown of the final play of the game and what I pointed out earlier this week with Chris Jones coming through with a nice rush in crunch time.
I was there for five years,” Belichick said. “It was five important years in my life, for myself, my family and all that. Obviously, we’ve all moved on, and I have a job to do here and that’s where my loyalty is, is to Robert (Kraft), the Patriots organization and this football team. So it’s no different than how I feel, honestly, about the Colts, or the Lions or the Broncos. I feel differently about the Jets. We won’t put them in that category.

When you have two challenges, I don’t see anything wrong with the concept of ‘you can challenge any two plays that you want,’” Belichick said. “I understand that judgment calls are judgment calls, but to say that an important play can’t be reviewed, I don’t think that’s really in the spirit of trying to get everything right and making sure the most important plays are officiated properly.

Belichick Breakdown: Belichick dissects the comeback
Belichick Breakdown: Belichick dissects the comeback
Must-watch after every win, here’s almost seven minutes of BB showing us some of the biggest plays from the Broncos win.
But outside of a couple audacious calls he makes each season, Belichick isn’t an especially strange coach. It’s not like the Patriots’ defense is Finnegans Wake, scheme-wise. They do what works and remain flexible. The only reason Troy Brown ever played nickel corner for the Pats is because the team didn’t have a halfway-decent nickel corner, not because his coach was trying to show the rest of the league he could use a slot receiver in his secondary and still win games. Belichick isn’t inscrutable. The refrain of his most famous speech is “Do your job.” He decided, before a Super Bowl, to remind his team that football is about execution. That’s about as orthodox as it gets.
Nice little read on BB. One thing that always kind of annoys me is people who call BB a genius and then hold it against him when he makes wrong decisions or his team loses. I simply prefer to think of him as one of the best football coaches of all time, and we can save the “genius” label for those who actually deserve it.
