According to a league source, Gronkowski is healthy enough to play, but the Patriots want to get him more practice time before suiting him up in a game. For that reason, the source said, the Patriots are leaning toward keeping Gronkowski out of Sunday’s home game with the Buccaneers.

Michael Buchanan Carving Role as Situational Pass-Rusher for New England Patriots – Yahoo Sports

Good stuff from OT, love when he writes about something I was thinking about writing about and then I don’t have to write about it.

Of the 27 snaps Buchanan has played thus far in the 2013 campaign, 22 have been pass plays and just five have been run plays, according to Pro Football Focus. His performance is based on a limited sample size. Nevertheless, entrusting a greenhorn to create a change of pace over 2012 third-round choice Jake Bequette could be a telling decision.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: 2013 TEAM EFFICIENCY RATINGS

Really trying not to post any stats until after Week 4, but I can’t help but put this Football Outsiders DVOA rankings up. Not trying to extrapolate anything, just take it for what it’s worth, which is two sloppy divisional games to open the season.

Offense: 27th

Defense: 4th

Brady reliving 2006?| Andy Hart – Patriots.com

I know we’re certainly reliving the body language storyline…

Through two weeks working without his previous favorite targets, back in 2006 Brady completed 26 of 52 passes (50-percent) for 483 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for an 85.6 passer rating. Through two weeks in 2013 Brady has completed 48 of 91 throws (52.7-percent) for 473 yards with three touchdowns and one interception for a 74.1 rating.

So with Gronk now ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Bucs, how do you think the Pats offense will attack the bucs D?

September 17, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Well, who knows what will happen for sure, still seems up in the air a bit, but let’s assume he doesn’t play.

Next thing is whether or not Sudfeld plays. It would be nice to have some kind of threat at tight end in the passing game, even if he is just a rookie who has been inconsistent.

I think we can assume Edelman will see plenty of Revis, so the Pats will have to move him around to make it a little difficult for them to match receivers.

Outside of that there isn’t really much more they can do other than EXECUTE. Catch the ball, run the right routes, etc. It certainly won’t be any easier than it was against the Jets, outside of the fact that the Jets know how to play the Pats, and the Bucs aren’t as familiar.

If the O-line plays well the Pats should win, but expect more inconsistency. I just hope we see some progression from Thompkins and Dobson. Edelman isn’t going to be able to save them as easily as he did against the Jets.

Do you prefer Gronk to start in PUP or be limited the first few games of the season.

At this point it seems to make the most sense to just PUP him and get him as healthy as possible. It mitigates the risk a little bit, he’ll only miss two division games, and three of the first six are out of conference, so it’s favorable to the Pats if they stumble a bit. […]
