So after reading about Amendola’s injury situation and seeing how his recovery time puts him in a favorable position to play against Atlanta what do you think are the realistic chances BB puts him and Gronk out there on sunday night? And if he can’t go, how do you think the rookies will play on their first nationally televised game in the NFL against a good team on the road?

September 25, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Can’t go too in-depth on this one yet as I think it will be for my Friday B/R column, but I think if both are ready to go they’ll play. I think they need Gronk back more than Danny for obvious reasons.

Regardless, this is a great opportunity for the Patriots to get better. I don’t even really care if they lose this one because the experience will trump the result. The young players need the experience of playing in a loud dome in a national game. These are the kind of games that prepare teams for the playoffs. Add in the Falcons weapons and it’s clear this will be a bigger test than the first few games.

This is one of those games where we’ll learn a lot about the 2013 Pats and I’m excited for that.

Massey and Thaler have advice for GMs: only suckers trade up. Over those 14 years of drafts, they calculated the outcomes of every possible 2-for-1 trade for a first rounder using the Draft Value Chart, and found “overwhelming evidence that a team would do better in the draft by trading down.” The team that would have traded down would have gained an average of 5.4 man-starts per season, with roughly the same amount of Pro Bowl appearances, at a cheaper cost.

Study: NFL Teams Have No Idea What They’re Doing In The Draft

I love it when a scientific study comes out that validates pretty much everything I’ve written about the draft being a total crapshoot.

So for those who complain about and criticize BB’s drafting, just stop.

Normal recovery time, even without surgery, is anywhere from two to six weeks. League sources said Amendola is healing faster than that, at a pace closer to three to four, which means he might play as soon as next Sunday at Atlanta.

If Gronk and Amendola come back this week? Oh boy…

How much of an impact is it on brady that the last two years the offense has been more tightens centered compared to this year where it is more wide receiver centered

September 24, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Impact on Brady? Not much. The Patriots have run a lot of the same plays and just change up the personnel, so I think a lot of their offensive evolution outside of 2007 and 2013 is more directly tied to the strengths of their players.

I never thought they purposely said “we need to go to a two tight end offense” in the 2010 draft. Good players were available, they drafted them, and adjusted their offense to fit the pieces they had.
