brady’s completion percentage – how much of it is his rookie receiving corp and how much of it is him getting worse with age? i’ve seen him under-throw too many times this season to blame it all on the inexperienced WRs, but at the same time, they may not be running the right routes. thoughts?

Impossible to measure accurately unless you know the play call and the needed route adjustments against the defensive play. Let’s just call it 50-50 and understand that everything is connected, and that includes the offensive line that certainly was not at their best against a very tough Jets front seven that has always caused a lot of problems.

Tom Brady has to stop with the Interceptions. I heard the “Losing Sucks interview and at the end of the interview one of the guys said Brady is playing like Matt Shaub. Thats scary and overreacting. Your thoughts.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane. It was 2010 and Tom Brady just turned in the following stat line in the second half against the Jets in New York:

7-of-16 (43.8%) for 69 yards and 2 interceptions.

He had Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez in that game, and would go on to win the first ever unanimous NFL MVP award.

Now, there’s no question he needs to be better, as do the rest of the offense and coaches. The Jets also deserve some credit. That’s a very good defense, playing at home in a game they really had to have.

There shouldn’t be any rush to judgement that Brady has suddenly lost it, even though that time will certainly come and this has been a sad preview of how quickly fans will turn against him.

It’s been an inconsistent start to the season, but there are two big games coming up and really great chances to not only right the ship, but really put the Pats in a strong position divisionally and in the conference.

Gronk is back. Amendola could be back this week. Let’s let the next two games play out, then we’ll get Vereen back and things should start looking a lot better.

In the Patriots’ 4-2-5 nickel and 4-1-6 dime packages, rookie Michael Buchanan has primarily been coming on as the right defensive end, kicking end Chandler Jones (the team’s best pass-rusher) to an interior rush position. Buchanan has lost containment in two of the last three games on third-down plays, which contributed to quarterback scrambles for first downs (Bengals’ Andy Dalton for 6 yards on third-and-5 and Jets’ Geno Smith for 14 yards on third-and-14). Carter’s presence could be tied, in part, to the Patriots looking for a more consistent player in that role.

Good news, Andre Carter should provide some good veteran leadership and a little boost to a defense that has already lost two captains and looked lost on third downs against the Jets.

Per @JosinaAnderson, DE Andre Carter intends to sign with the New England Patriots today. #Patriots

The biggest problem:

Third-down offense

This week: 28th (35 of 105, 33.3 percent)

Last week: 18th (34 of 93, 36.6 percent)

Last season: 1st (110 of 226, 48.7 percent)

zone-coverage: So I’m going to start a series of videos and/or commentaries on the players of the New England Patriots, in order of Jersey Number. Starting with the lowest, Kicker Stephen Gostkowski. Here’s a fun little video of some target practice before the 2010 season – not much analysis except to say he made all […]
