Make a gift to support your local Cheer for Dana-Farber squad today and you will be entered into a drawing for two Patriots tickets and tailgate party passes to the November 24 game against the Denver Broncos. Learn more and see official rules by going to www.cheerfordanafarber.org and clicking on “Support a squad.”

All New England cheerleading squads have been invited to raise vital funds for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Cheerleading squads can raise money in their community through bake sales, car washes, and other fun activities. Each team that raises $1,000 or more will be entered to win the grand prize — a chance to perform a cheerleading routine during the pre-game show for the Dec. 29 New England Patriots game against the Buffalo Bills.

What should we think about KT being overtaken by Collie and Dobson seeming to be on the field more and more often? And what about Gronk and Amendola’s seeming ineffectiveness being on the fiend together for the first time?

October 28, 2013 by Mike Dussault

It’s all still very fluid. I think we need to give Gronk and Amendola a little more time, let’s just wait until after the bye week before we start expecting them to be up to full speed.

As for Thompkins, sometimes it’s good for a rookie to take a step back and I think that is what yesterday was for him. He could very well still end up being a significant weapon before the year is out, but he was struggling to get off the line against the Jets, and that’s nothing something we’ve seen from him much this season.

Hopefully some perspective and rest do the trick for him and he starts showing quickness off the line he showed all summer.

Overall, it seemed to be more of a liberal mix of substitutions at receiver between Danny Amendola (39), Julian Edelman (33) and Collie (33). … At tight end, Rob Gronkowski continues to be eased into the mix, as he played fewer snaps (33) than last week (51).

I came across your post earlier this year about the things the Pats would have to do to make it to the SB this year: Protect Tom Brady, Pass Rush. Pass Rush. Pass Rush, Get (and stay) Healthy. Being that we’re basically at the half way point of the season, anything you would like to add or revise?

October 28, 2013 by Mike Dussault

Not really, obviously getting and staying healthy has been a big challenge this year, and Tom Brady’s protection has been inconsistent at times. However we did see some great pass rush against the Dolphins in the second half and they’ll need to keep that off to cover for deficiencies in the other two areas.

I’ve been getting a lot of “yeah the Pats are 6-2 but is this a team that can win the Super Bowl?” questions and here are my thoughts. Even this Patriots team isn’t going to get blown out by anyone and despite their losses to injury, I think this defense is playing as well as we’ve seen any Patriots defense play in a long time.

So in one game is there really any team in the AFC that the Patriots absolutely cannot beat? I don’t see one. They certainly wouldn’t be favored on the road against a few teams, but outside of Denver I’d feel fine going back into Cinci or even Indy.

Let’s remember the Giants won the Super Bowl after going 9-7 and having a lot of adversity and tough games throughout the season. The teams that learn how to win tough games and know how to bounce back are the ones that are toughest to beat.

I’m not going to say the Patriots’ offense looks anywhere close to unstoppable, but at 6-2, they have some freedom to keep working and don’t have to panic.

So is this a team that can win a Super Bowl? Sure. If they peak for those 3-4 games in January/February by playing clean football (avoiding turnovers and negative plays) and the breaks fall their way.

There’s still a lot of football to be played and time for more development and returns from injury. We don’t have to put the final verdict down on the 2013 Patriots yet, but I know for sure they’ll go down swinging whenever the time comes.

On the eve of the weekend before Free Agency I’m gonna blow some minds with an Adalius Thomas Patriots highlight film. Insanity. I know.  A lot of people choose to forget that Thomas, though being asked to play inside linebacker, was actually pretty good the first year he was with the Pats. In Super Bowl […]
