Best-, Worst-Case Scenarios for a New England Patriots Playoff Run

The Friday column is up, with the Pats now having the first overall seed in the AFC within their grasp if they win out. But one loss could send them all the way down to third…

lolpats:

Supercool fan art of Kenbrell Thompkin’s reaction to his game-winning TD catch vs Saints this season. Would love to see more of this from KT Da WInner soon, and often.

Everson Griffen, Gerald McCoy, J.J. Watt stand out among Week 14 pass rushers | The MMQB with Peter King

Pats’ pass rush numbers remain sub-par, they’ve been in the early-20’s as far as these rankings go for some time now. Ninkovich did sneak on to the top edge rushers for last week, but otherwise, no Pats.

If the New England Patriots can’t find a way to get off the field on third down, it will end their season. For this offense to score points they will need as many possessions as possible. If teams continue to convert on third down, it will keep Tom Brady and the offense off the field. Especially if the defense continues to fall in their turnover rankings.

Really think the defense will look a lot better once Dennard is back in there full time. He’s really been underrated the last two seasons, and not far behind Talib. They also need better pass rush from their sub-packages. I love Andre Carter, but wouldn’t mind seeing Michael Buchanan get back in there with another shot. Pats need to do something different on third downs this week.

Is there any recent news about gronkowski’s return? If worst case scenario he is put on the pup list, who has the best chance to emerge to temporarily replace him?

Only that he’s been back in Foxboro, working with trainers on rehab/stretching. I still think it’s overly optimistic to think he’ll be back before week six. And really, why rush it and risk having him get hurt again? Ballard is the immediate replacement, and will likely be the primary “Y” tight end, which is the […]
