What do you think belichick saw in the Super Bowl if anything that he could use against manning

February 5, 2014 by Mike Dussault

There’s not really much of secret of how to stop him. Get consistent pressure with four guys and disrupt the timing of the offense by pressing his receivers at the line.

Knowing that is one thing, executing it for a full 60 minutes is another.

You’re not going to beat him with scheme or wrinkles, i.e. the mental game, you need to beat his offense physically.

This is known as beating elite passing QBs 101. Look at any Patriots loss where Brady gets shut down and this is what it likely looks like as well, especially the two Super Bowl losses.

If your defensive line is winning in the trenches you’re likely going to win the gam unless your QB is inept and your offense turns the ball over.

The takeaway, as always, is that in the league you need two things – a solid QB with good protection and an elite pass rush. If you have those two things you’re on your way.

Greg A. Bedard on Salk & Holley/WEEI

Greg A. Bedard on Salk & Holley/WEEI

Good stuff as always from Bedard. I find it funny, based on the text they read on air, that some Pats fans refuse to face reality with Wilfork. The first major injury of his career could not come at a worse time for him or the team.

As Bedard states, maybe a one-to-two year extension where they can spread some money out would be best for both sides. But the stark reality is that a third of football players who tear their Achilles never return and even the other two-thirds that do return are not the same players.

The Pats must protect themselves financially and on the field in case Wilfork is never the same player again.

Other good stuff in here as well on Talib and Edelman, and I love how Bedard brought up exactly what I wrote about yesterday, everyone seems to ignore the development of young players. The only way to improve, they seem to think, is through free agency or trading up in the draft.

Our projection on a fair Talib long-term deal for both sides would be three years, $21 million, with $12 million in bonuses and guarantees ($6 million signing bonus, $6 million 2014 option bonus/potentially paid on a per-game basis). If I’m Talib, I’d resist the structure of a per-game roster bonus payout structure, and if I’m […]
