This was somewhat of an expected move and it’s a solid one to lock down right before the draft. This is a classic Patriots signing, a veteran whose old team might’ve thought they were done, getting one last shot in Foxboro.

Smith had a down year in 2012, then bad luck with an ACL tear in 2013. So who knows, maybe he still has something to prove. He should be a good rotational third defensive end with Nink and Chandler, though I think the door is still open for Michael Buchanan as a pure pass rusher. It’s doubtful that Smith still has the explosion that a younger player like Buchanan does.

Rotoworld’s 2014 NFL Mocks – Mock Drafts – Rotoworld.com

Five mocks side-by-side here and two of them have Easley, two have Hageman and one has Bitonio. Can’t remember a year when so many Pats pundits were in lockstep on the first pick as we get closer to the draft. It’s just making me more and more curious who falls and what they end up doing.

Good list of needs though I don’t entirely agree with the order. Give me defensive front seven or offensive linemen as early as possible. If they can get Niklas/Fiedorowicz/Seferian-Jenkins I am a fan of all three, but I don’t want to overdraft on a guy who might be nothing more than Gronk insurance.

Patriots 2014 Mock Draft: Last-Minute Predictions – Patriots – Boston.com

Getting a late start here on draft week, and what better way to kick it off than a mock from Frenz. Won’t be dropping my own final mock draft (somehow I’ve managed to do just one this whole offseason!) until Wednesday. But lots of good stuff in here from Frenz.

The agents for multiple mid-to-late-round prospects pointed out how Belichick was the only head coach to put their players through a private workout. It’s the same thing every year, but it seems worth repeating: Belichick turns from coach to scout in March and April each year.
