It’s hard to explain this to people, but the commitment I make, in terms of keeping my body in shape and my nutrition right, should make me healthy. I feel better today than when I was 25, and I know that’s hard for people to believe, but I do. I work at it. Basically, I work all off-season to prepare my body to not get hurt. I can’t help the team if I’m on the sidelines. I’ve got to be durable.

Which players do you see getting time at another position in training camp

May 25, 2014 by Mike Dussault

There’s always a need to build depth by exposing players to multiple positions in the offseason. So just because someone like Logan Ryan might see some time at safety, it’s more to protect the team when injuries strike (which of course they will, especially in the secondary.

So Ryan might get his feet wet back there, just as McCourty will still take some reps at corner from time to time. Hightower could see some time as a pass rushing defensive end or even as an interior sub rusher.

I am curious where they have Armond Armstead. He’s listed as a defensive end on Patriots.com but he mostly been projected as a defensive tackle.

Another interesting spot to watch will be whether Dennard starts seeing time at nickel corner. He has been almost exclusively an outside corner since his rookie year, despite being undersized. He seems to have the necessary quickness, ball skills and toughness to play inside.

Some are speculating whether Mark Harrison could see time at tight end, but it sounds like they still with him at receiver to begin with.

There’s always some juggling on the offensive line. Will Marcus Cannon continue to see spot reps at guard? Or will he move there full time? Does Connolly get much time at Center? Some think Wendell could go and Connolly could slide back to center. Is Cameron Fleming exclusively at right tackle? How versatile are Stork and Halapio?

There’s a lot of unknowns behind the starters at linebacker. Which spots are each of them playing? Cameron Gordon, Deontae Skinner, Darius Fleming,Steve Beauharnais and Taylor McCuller will be interesting to watch. Some unknown will make the team.

He’s a very unselfish player. He always did what was great for the team. That’s what attracted us to him. He had to do it in high school and it probably prepared him just as well for what he had to do in college and possibly now with the Patriots. I think the great thing about him, his mom and dad are great people. His dad is a police officer and raised him the right way to be a pretty unselfish person with just everything he does.

Belichick and Chip Kelly are now in the process of dotting I’s and crossing T’s for the Patriots and Eagles to do the same at Gillette Stadium the following week (likely Aug. 12-14) before the team’s preseason game.

Would you be happy with an Andre Johnson trade? Or do you see it as spoiling the development of a young player?

May 24, 2014 by Mike Dussault

While I usually am on the side of allowing young players to develop, I’d be all for the Andre Johnson acquisition. There’s good competition at the X receiver spot, but no one is set in stone. Dobson is still recovering from foot surgery, LaFell has some promise but as we know it’s always somewhat of a crap shoot with free agents. We know Johnson would give everything he had in the tank and who knows what he’d do with Brady throwing him the ball. It’s just one of those scenarios that unquestionably makes the team much better and therefore is worth it even if it pushes Dobson down the depth chart for another year.

“Usually it takes until year two before players are fully back up to speed after an ACL.” Modern techniques have made it much shorter than that, Mike. We see players playing close to their former level in a year than we ever did before and if rehab is done properly then at a level that is just the same as before the injury. I’m thinking Gronk’s rehab is going to be pretty good and that the coaches will take their time with it. Hope to see him back at the top of his game.

While technical recovery might be okay by 9-12 months I don’t think the player truly feels confident and comfortable on the rebuilt knee until their second season. We saw the dip in Welker’s numbers in 2010, Brady was a little shaky during parts of 2009. Even Revis last year wasn’t fully comfortable yet. Adrian Peterson is probably the only exception that I can think of, where the player came back from ACL surgery within months and was just as good as he was before. I do think Gronk is just the kind of guy who could be back to normal sooner than later.
