[T]he presence of defensive lineman Vince Wilfork (ruptured Achilles, Sept. 29) in some 11-on-11 work today was our biggest takeaway. He looks to be moving well, as we noticed him pushing off hard and exploding forward to put pressure on the left side of the offensive line. Wilfork didn’t participate in the full practice, but it seemed like a significant step.

Brady has basically always been in the conversation for the best quarterback of all time throughout his career, do you think that the recent debate about his place in the top tier will act as motivation for him to dominate even further this season? If he is the competitor that we all know him to be then this BS journalism must get him at least a little heated…

June 12, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Every little bit helps! But I don’t think Brady ever needs much help in the motivation department, he’s motivated himself at an incredible level for the last decade-plus. I think it just boils down to competitiveness. There are thousands of athletes out there that have the size and talent to play professional sports. Some have enough to make it to the pros on their god-given talents alone, but the ones who are truly special are the ones who are competitive almost to an annoying level. A “do you really care who wins this stupid game of ping pong” level of competitiveness.

That, more than anything else, is what gets athletes to the professional level. Someone like Brady, who isn’t the most athletic, but has a year-round desire to push himself to absolute max, are the ones who can be great. Of course, even Brady has perfect height and hand size to be a quarterback. There is a certain level of size and athleticism that no amount of competitiveness can overcome. But guys like Wes Welker, Danny Woodhead, etc. just prove it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.

Throwback Thursday: Patriots Preseason Wrap: 0-4, Could Bruschi Be Shown the Door?

Throwback Thursday: Patriots Preseason Wrap: 0-4, Could Bruschi Be Shown the Door?

Here’s a link to my original Patriots blog, a post after the Pats had just wrapped up an 0-4 preseason. It’s funny but you can almost see the writing on the wall that this team had a 2007 hangover and were not ready to play. I remember Belichick talking in his Football Life, which was during the 2009 season, referencing how unprepared the team was for the opener where Brady ultimately had his season ended.

Anyway, thought it was a fun flashback…

Albert Breer’s offseason notebook: Rookie surprises – NFL Videos

Breer reports that Ridley has come in lighter and focused on fixing his fumbling issues, and that there’s been no talk of a contract extension. Not surprising on any fronts, both he and Vereen have a lot to prove and there will be at least three rookies breathing down their necks. Brandon Bolden is a wild card to me. I really liked what he did in 2012 (at times) but felt like he regressed in 2013. He just can’t seem to pick up much YAC and his receiving skills are not good enough to make him a viable back up to Vereen.
