Patriots Sign First-Round Pick Easley

June 23, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Love the no-drama rookie contract situations now.

#Patriots 1st round DL Dominique Easley signed a 4-year, $7.3M contract with a $3.63M signing bonus, source said. 80% of it is guaranteed.

do you think the pats are going to have the most pass happy backfield ever this season?

June 23, 2014 by Mike Dussault

It’s a really good question and one that I haven’t full grasped yet just because we haven’t seen these guys with pads on yet and it’s just about impossible to truly evaluate the running game on any level without real contact.

But you look at Shane Vereen, James White and Roy Finch and they’ve certainly gotten some attention in OTAs. I think the first thing that we look at is can Vereen stay healthy, because if he can’t it appears that White will be thrust into the fire right away.

Finch is small, so we really need to see if he has the toughness and elusiveness that Danny Woodhead had to avoid contact and make life difficult for would-be tacklers. If he can’t he likely won’t make the team.

But it’s clear on both sides of the ball that the passing game is what the main focus is now and the Pats certainly did not want to be hamstrung like they were when they lost Vereen last year and had no threat in the passing game. I think we all took Kevin Faulk for granted somewhat.

A Different Mold: Examining Patriots Linebacker James Anderson | NEPatriotsDraft.com – 2014 NFL Draft

Good read from Oliver Thomas. James Anderson is certainly the kind of player the Pats could’ve used last year after Mayo went down. He should see plenty of action on passing downs, whether it’s spelling Mayo or being part of a pass coverage-heavy defensive package.

Yes, he is the best cornerback in the league,” said Woody, who played with Revis from 2008-10. “Maybe I’m biased, but what separates Revis … is his versatility, and being a student of the game. This guy understands his position. “He’s meticulous with how he studies the opponent, how the opponent will attack you. You never see him out of position. That comes from really good study habits and being a hell of a practice player. “He tried to make practice harder than the game; he was the ultimate competitor in practice. I’m not saying we had all-world receivers on the Jets, but he was [working] in practice, and when it carried over to the game, it was easy for him. It really was.

“We just built on what he’d already established with Coach Martinez. As he’s getting a little older, you lose a little strength and lose a little flexibility. He has a guy, Alex Guerrero, that helps him with that. What was happening, he was noticing his accuracy and his long ball weren’t what they were 3-4 years ago. So we brought him to the computer, compared him to the models we have created for movement efficiency, and there were really, really small things that were causing his issues. “Probably the easiest way to explain it, his front side was a little too rotational. He wasn’t maintaining his torque long enough. So really, really small little adjustments.

When you get him off the media and doing all that stuff, and he gets more into his comfort zone where it’s him up there teaching football and teaching guys life lessons, you get to see a different side of him. I think that’s the joy of playing for him – you learn things football-wise and he does a good job for each one of us of just trying to give us some lessons that will help you in life.

Think there is a chance they move back to a 34, it seems like it would fit them better

Just depends on the game. They’ll run a 34 when they want to focus on stopping the run. They’ll run more 43 or nickel if they’re a little more focused on stopping the pass. They played no 34 against the Broncos and were gashed. They could’ve changed to it if they cared, but that was […]
