Malcolm Butler practiced in front of the media for the first time, and he earned some quality reps alongside Logan Ryan. With Butler’s disciplinary action in the past, today’s involvement was a sign that he wouldn’t be buried on the depth chart upon his return to the field.

Belichick’s no-tolerance policy with players being on time is well documented; most recently with Revis and running back Jonas Gray being sent home from the team facility during the 2014 regular season for arriving late.

Over his 16 years as coach, it’s one of the primary messages he stresses with players, noting that unpredictable weather is part of living in New England and to always plan accordingly with a larger margin for error.

However, this is believed to be the first time Belichick has sidelined a player for multiple weeks in a voluntary setting.

Welp another Patriot learns the hard way why you can never be late in Foxboro. My college hockey coach demanded we were always five minutes early for any team activity and I still can’t shake the fear it instilled in me. One day my roommate and I somehow both overslept and were late to a morning lift at 6am. Of course that was the one day the coach showed up and he sent us right back to the dorms. The next day we had to run around the rink, up and down the stairs, for  a while and all was okay after that. But I still can’t stand to be late to anything.

Chandler Jones Will Outprice the Patriots

Chandler Jones Will Outprice the Patriots

Good take from Rich Hill and I have to agree with him. There’s no question that Chandler is a very athletic defensive end who can do it all and that’s why he never leaves the field. He’s shown plenty of flashes of brilliance in his first three seasons, but decisions have to be made.

The Patriots had no depth last season at the position, but this offseason they’ve remedied that by adding Jabaal Sheard via free agency and drafting Tre Flowers, Geneo Grissom and Xzavier Dickson. Those rookies are under contract for four years while both Rob Ninkovich and Jabaal Sheard both have two more years.

If one of the rookies emerges as a legitimate player, the Pats will be fairly well protected against Jones’ departure in 2017.

You never want to see good young players leave, but I do think that Collins and Hightower should be the long-term priorities. Either way they still have two seasons to figure it out, but the planning has already begun.

As Patriots players were wrapping up their work day Friday, one final meeting was called. It was with the kickoff coverage unit. The Patriots struggled in that area against the Texans last Sunday, and today, they face the NFL’s No. 1 ranked unit led by Jacoby Jones. The best explanation for the struggles last week […]
