“Sweet Feet” James White 2013 Highlights [HD] – YouTube

I try not to put too much weight into reps early in training camp, but all signs are pointing to James White potentially stepping into a significant roles this year. Very interested to see how he looks in game action in a couple with pass blocking being a big key.

Here’s a bit of what White had to say on Friday:

“I am coming with a more aggressive approach,” White said. “I want to be aggressive in my technique and I want to go out here and be a reliable player. That is what I am going to try out and do every single day.”

With the addition of Sheard/Grissom/Roberts/Dickson, how do you see the defensive end position shaking out? And where is Zach Moore’s role in all of this?

July 31, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Zach Moore came back really bulked up and there’s talk of him playing more of a defensive tackle role at least in sub packages. So I’m really curious to see what they do with him since coming out of a small school we couldn’t really expect much out of him last year.

Assuming you mean Flowers not Roberts at the defensive end spot. Yeah there’s a bunch of them there now, and I think to some extent it’s aimed at insurance for next season when Chandler might walk and with Ninkovich into his 30s they really need protection should he get injured.

How does it play out this year? Hard to say, but the early reports are that they’re getting Nink/Chandler/Sheard all on the field at the same time. The best answer is that they’ll mix and match like they usually do. We can’t really put it into a box like you could in the past where it was “okay, they’re mostly a 34 front, how does everyone fit onto the depth chart”.

Grissom might even be headed to linebacker, we haven’t heard where he’s starting out yet, but he has a lot of athleticism.

So it’s good, versatile depth that they’ll be able to do a number of things with, but most importantly they should have fresh pass rushers ready to go for four quarters, something the definitely didn’t have last year.

Tweets of Note from Patriots Training Camp Practice #2

July 31, 2015 by Mike Dussault

The pads come on tomorrow so that’s when things get interesting. One other tidbit that I caught this morning was that Dane Fletcher suffered a torn ACL at the end of last year (not sure how I missed that) and is expected to start on the PUP. That will shift a lot of 53-man projections, maybe opening a spot up for someone like James Morris.

Here are the tweets that caught my eye…

Aplane just flew over Gillette with a banner that read: “New England Aerial supports Tom Brady”

— Ryan Hannable (@RyanHannable) July 31, 2015

Noticed a few more plays on the ball today from the CBs. Bradley Fletcher and Malcolm Butler each had a PBU in the end zone.

— Erik Frenz (@ErikFrenz) July 31, 2015

Pats are finding ways to get Chandler Jones, Ninkovich and Sheard on the field at the same time.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) July 31, 2015

Jordan Richards blanketed Gronk on an INC in the end zone. Second time in two days the rookie has stuck out.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) July 31, 2015

11-on-11s now. Lots of moving pieces. Defense keeps changing alignments. Both 3-4 and 4-3 looks. Ninko was just at LB, dropped into coverage

Submit a Question!

Training camp is a go and there’s real football stuff starting to pour in. What’s on your mind Pats pals?

This seems like a good way to get things going on a training camp Friday.

My most loathed Pats hater is Bart Hubbuch. Reading the guy’s Twitter feed is infuriating, then when he starts talking about New Englanders I want to drill him in the mouth. Anyways, which member of the hate squad gets under your skin the most?

July 30, 2015 by Mike Dussault

I actually discovered that I’m not obligated by law to follow/listen to/pay any attention to any one I don’t want to so I’ve cut all those people off, but here are some of them:

Felger & Mazz – There are full twitter accounts dedicated to railing against them, but having a HOT TAKE is what they do. People can’t not listen to them for some reason even though they know exactly what their schtick is. I don’t find it entertaining so I don’t listen.

Ben Volin – You can not follow him and literally miss zero interesting Patriots information. I’m pretty convinced the Patriots feed him misinformation to make him look bad like the Vollmer to guard thing he reported last year. The other doozy was him saying Gronk was “bursting, cutting, exploding” in camp and every other beat reporter refuting that claim. He’s blocked Jeff Howe if that tells you anything.

ESPN – Seriously, just don’t even turn it on unless the Pats are playing MNF. And certainly don’t even touch Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless with a ten-foot anything.

Hubbuch is a master and easily swings whichever way is going to cause the most buzz. He’ll go after the Jets just as easy as he’ll go after the Patriots too. It’s just what he does. Today’s comment on the Pats not wearing numbers being a shot at fans was classic him. As if he gives two shits about Patriots fans.

Honestly, I think the only local beat guys you need are Mike Reiss, Chris Price, Tom E. Curran and Jeff Howe. You’ll get a perfect array of solid info, history and fun reads and none will try to put out a piece just to get clicks.

Also Mark Daniels of the ProJo really does a nice job with long, informative pieces on players. He really filled a needed niche last season.

And JERRY THORNTON! What’s wrong with me, he’s like one of the most important ones along with Nick “Fitzy” Stevens. Those two guys are probably the best Pats entertainers out there.

Also, just had to add that those are the mainstream big outlet people. There are a bunch of really good bloggers out there who know their stuff and work really hard. To name a few – old pal Erik Frenz, Mike Loyko, James Christensen and his staff at NEPatriotsDraft.com, Steve Balestrieri, Derek Havens and the rest of the guys at Ian Logue’s PatsFans.com. I’m sure I’m forgetting some people but we’re spoiled to have so many dedicated guys following our team. These are just the ones I’ve known the longest.

The NFL’s basic due process is the real issue in the DeflateGate controversy

The NFL’s basic due process is the real issue in the DeflateGate controversy

Nobody has more effectively hammered the NFL than the Washington Post’s Sally Jenkins. What really bugs me is how Deflategate is being painted as just a bunch of crazy Patriots fans being the only ones defending Brady. In reality there are plenty of outlets across the country, including New York Times and Wired magazine, that see through the NFL’s shoddy process.

I think it just boils down to those who hate the Patriots are more blinded than those who love them. There are certainly those who would stick with Brady if he was caught with a pin in the ball himself, but there are plenty of neutral parties that side with the Patriots here as well.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Week 15 DVOA Ratings

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Week 15 DVOA Ratings Here are the latest DVOA rankings as the Patriots defense continues their decline to an average-at-best squad. But hey, the offense still looks pretty good.  Perhaps the most-telling offensive stat though for this Patriots team is their VARIANCE, which measures how consistent they are from drive to drive. They’re […]
