Any credence to the belief that the league hosed the Pats on the schedule this year? There is some evidence – Earliest possible bye during planned Brady suspension, Indy gets long rest, Pats get short rest for Denver, two Thursday games…

October 9, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Nah I don’t really buy it. The schedule seems like a logistical nightmare all by itself. Thinking that the NFL was then trying to add in the chance to screw the Patriots wherever possible doesn’t seem plausible even for them. And really I think having two of their three divisional road games at the very end of the schedule is actually an advantage instead of having them earlier in the season when they might be more likely to have a hiccup. There aren’t many secrets about the Colts/Broncos either, we’ve played them pretty much every year so a short week or allowing them an extra couple days to prepare for us isn’t too much of issue.

with the way the Texans are playing this season, do you think Wilfork will be back with us when his contract is over or sooner?

He’s not coming back. Sorry.

If you could plug any ex-Patriot into the current defense, who would it be?

October 9, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Ty Law is my choice for obvious reasons given the current makeup of the defense and what they probably need most. Don’t even think about choosing Revis over him.

Hard not to miss Wilfork as well, just the perfect piece up front. I always have a soft spot for Vrabel too, but I think generally an OLB isn’t really a big need.

Which year did you enjoy most from the offense: the undefeated 07, the return of Brady in 09, mvp 10, two tightend 11, fast paced 12, comebacks of 13, healthy gronk 14

October 9, 2015 by Mike Dussault

The only answer is 2007. The shift from what the offense was in 2006 to that was just unreal. Yeah, it’s been a great offense for a while now, and the fast pace, no huddle is fun and Gronk is a dominant man-child that is a joy to watch, but nothing can replace Tom Brady suddenly unleashing a deep aerial assault to Randy Moss and the uncoverable Wes Welker. 2007 was just a thrilling offensive ride. Such a shame is sputtered at the end like it did.

Uni Watch’s Friday Flashback – Remembering New England Patriots’ awkward pre-Tom Brady phase

Uni Watch’s Friday Flashback – Remembering New England Patriots’ awkward pre-Tom Brady phase

Love this flashback to the 90′s unis the Pats wear. I still have a reversible Drew Bledsoe jersey in this style and it was what I was wearing during Super Bowl 39. If you’ve noticed the Pats haven’t worn the red throwbacks since 2011 due to this:

A recommendation by the NFL’s Head, Neck and Spine Committee forbids teams from changing helmets during the season for safety reasons. A team may wear a throwback uniform, but the helmet must be the same one worn throughout the season.

That leaves teams with two options: wear the vintage uniform with a present day helmet or change the logo on the current helmet to the vintage.

It’s a rare instance of the NFL missing out on a chance to make money selling more jerseys.

So why not bring back these 90s jerseys and then they can just keep the helmets they currently have?

With Brown and Fletcher a little banged up, are you concerned about the CB depth this weekend and long term? I think Justin Coleman is good, and I’ve always had a soft spot for Dax Swanson who seems to play well in practice per reports.

October 9, 2015 by Mike Dussault

It’s definitely something to watch because Brown’s foot has been an issue all season and it seems like it flared up again to the point where they decided to sit him against Jax but he was still dressed. That says to me he could’ve played if they needed him to, but at that point they wanted to get him two weeks off to heal up. He’s now on the injury report.

Personally I kind of think Fletcher’s injury is a blessing in disguise because it will likely prevent them from using him and that’s good for our pass defense.

I thought Coleman held his own in his first NFL game, and while I’d like to see Swanson get a shot, it’s strange to me that he never has really gotten a chance before and that could signal they like him but they don’t like him like him, if you know what I mean.

Submit a Question!

October 9, 2015 by Mike Dussault

Submit a Question!

Get your questions in now so when my coffee kicks in it’s go time!

Areas I’m curious about this weekend:

How the offensive line looks if Wendell is back. Prediction – Wendell at center with the Kline/Jackson/Mason rotation continuing. Does David Andrew go MIA after a good start?

Will the Cowboys sell out to stop Gronk?

Can Dion Lewis keep showing such a spark?

Does Mayo play more this week or does Bostic have a role on defense?

What does the defense look like when they try to stop the run?

Plenty to talk about as we’re about to embark on 13 straight weeks of Patriots football. Love it!
