Sporting News picks the Jets to win the Super Bowl over the Cowboys. Ahh, this Pats fan is finding it nice to be back with the underdogs again.

Known for using a clever blend of coverage and pressures, Crennel’s system is deeply rooted in a “quarter-quarter-half” cover scheme that has the ability to suffocate offenses if executed properly.

The field is split into quarters with the strong corner (typically the left corner because most offenses tilt right) and the strong safety each responsible for covering a quarter of the field. On the weak-side, the boundary corner and free safety play a half-field coverage to create a double team on the split end (X-receiver). With the corner playing a “cloud” technique (corner is aligned three-to-five yards off the receiver forcing an inside release on all routes to ensure that the safety is able to stay on top of the receiver down the field) to disrupt the release of the receiver, the scheme can make it difficult for the quarterback to find open receivers.

New England Patriots Mid-West (aka KC Chiefs) Update

New England Patriots Mid-West (aka KC Chiefs) Update

I really don’t root for any teams other than the Pats, but this year I will take a rooting interest in the Chiefs. Not just because they have Weis & Crennel & Cassel & Vrabel, or because I dislike the Broncos or Chargers, or that I’m rooting for the Raiders to go 0-16, but because I really need to at least marginally care about a second team. The NFL is a better place with a good Chiefs team, I’m hoping that happens this year. I’ll try to pass along articles that will help catch us all up to speed on the Chiefs like this one.

And I make no assurances that I’ll root for them beyond even week one. We’ll just have to see how that goes.

EDIT- I changed it to Patriots Mid-West to make sure I don’t offend anyone in Kansas City, per @DanteSterling’s tip.

Patriots Schwag Hunt: The 50th Anniversary Jacket

It’s pretty clear that this jacket will intimidate the shit out of anyone opposed to the Patriots. I don’t think there’s another item out there that says “50 Years of Ass Kicking” like this. So yeah, it’s $150, but it really is a must own for any Patriots fan.

Reiss: Not Done with Chung-a-Palooza

Reiss proves yet again that great minds think alike.

Note – Chung played only one defensive snap in the playoff loss. The article was missing that.

Reiss: Chung-a-Palooza

Reiss: Chung-a-Palooza

It’s articles like this that prove Mike Reiss is one of the best beat reporters in the NFL. Chung really does have solid size, moreso than I’ve given him credit for in the past. No offense to Brandon McGowan or James Sanders, but Chung’s versatility and upside could give him a chance to see alot of playing time this year.

(no title)

Tom Brady hanging with the UCLA softball team. This is always the time of year I have to resist the urge to go a little stalkerish on a Brentwood/Westwood/Beverly Hills-area TFB hunt. I imagine I just stumble upon Brady, Welker and Edelman working out at the UCLA practice fields. They instantly notice that I just […]
