Rapsheet: Thoughts on Bill Belichick’s A Football Life

Rapsheet: Thoughts on Bill Belichick’s A Football Life

I can’t believe I still have to wait a week to see this thing.2009 is really an interesting season for this to happen during, perhaps the only year of the BB reign where the magic was just missing.

Trying to rank my excitement for it, I’d put it over the draft, and probably a regular season game, but definitely below a playoff game. Can’t wait…

The relationship between Tom Brady and Belichick comes through so strong in this film. When Belichick needs someone to lean on on the sidelines, it’s Brady. After the Saints loss, for instance, Belichick walks over to Brady and commiserates, saying, “We have no mental toughness, we can’t play the way we need to play, I just can’t get them to play the way they need to play on a week-to-week basis. It’s so (expletive) frustrating.” And Brady responds with a knowing, “We got our (expletive) kicked.” But it’s like Brady is half-coach. So much trust there.

Here, with Mayo and Vince, you can talk to the guys. It’s not something you couldn’t do in D.C., but here, it’s really like a family in the locker room. Everyone is for you. No matter what happens, if a guy does something or whatever, it doesn’t matter, they’re all behind him. They’re not going to pass judgment or anything like that. It’s all about everybody being for you, everybody having your back.

Patriots name 2011 Captains

September 8, 2011 by Mike Dussault

I was kind of pulling for Patchung! here but oh well. Say what you will about the Patriots drafts but every single captain was drafted by BB. Excited for McCourty and Slater, who has slowly won me over after a couple years of being miscast as a kick returner who subscribed to the “just put my head down and run straight into oncoming defenders” style of returns.

  • Tom Brady
  • Logan Mankins
  • Vince Wilfork
  • Jerod Mayo
  • Devin McCourty
  • Matthew Slater

Mike Reiss’ thoughts on Bill Belichick’s A Life In Football

Mike Reiss’ thoughts on Bill Belichick’s A Life In Football

I’m drooling over here. No matter how next Monday night goes I’ll be almost as excited for Thursday.

There are plenty of other interesting nuggets. One doesn’t expect to see Belichick trash-talking with then-Ravens receiver Derrick Mason during a Week 4 game, with some we’re-going-to-have-to-bleep-this-out language. Belichick also tells Baltimore’s Ed Reed that he thinks he’s the best free safety who ever played the game.

Later, we learn that Belichick wanted to avoid a postgame handshake with Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, his former offensive coordinator, so he embraced him before the game and told him they’d just wave afterward.
