FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Worst Cornerback Charting Stats 2011

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Worst Cornerback Charting Stats 2011

McCourty comes in 6th worst in yards per pass. Is there a more pressing question on the 2012 Pats than whether or not McCourty can get his mojo back?

Devin McCourty had a huge sophomore slump for the Patriots; he was particularly victimized all year by tall receivers like Brandon Marshall and Vincent Jackson. On one hand, this looks like more evidence of the inconsistency of cornerback charting stats; on the other hand, it’s hard to argue that these stats weren’t doing a good job of measuring McCourty’s actual on-field performance in both 2010 and 2011. He actually wasn’t ranked that high in 2010 as a rookie (41st in Success Rate, 38th in Adjusted Yards per Pass) and his 2011 performance pretty much was as poor as those numbers show.

Brady has been the starter for 10 seasons (he was hurt after one game in 2008), and the Patriots went to the Super Bowl in five of those years. Follow the bread crumbs, people. The guy is one of the game’s best quarterbacks ever, and as long as he’s upright the Patriots have nothing to worry about.

Patriots’ Uniforms Will Have Minimal Changes When Nike Unveils New Designs Tuesday – New England Patriots – NESN.com

Nike is set to unveil its new line of NFL uniforms Tuesday, and some speculation over the designs has ranged from frantic to completely out of control. Fear not, football fans. The changes will be minimal, primarily restricted to the technology of the design and the material. So, Patriots fans shouldn’t be worried about an uber-patriotic design in which the Flying Elvis is replaced by Uncle Sam and the jerseys are red, white and blue and loaded with American flags, bald eagles and apple pies.

When asked how was he holding up in wake of losing the Super Bowl, the former Florida Gator shook his head. ”It’s tough for me, being right there. Almost is not good enough,” Spikes said. ”I think guys are going to be hungrier. I was blessed enough to play on the big stage. We were right there. I don’t like talking about it. It’s tough to swallow sometimes.”

Jets coach Rex Ryan believes Tim Tebow will excel in Wildcat – The Boston Globe

Great stuff throughout Bedard’s Sunday notes, with lots of Jets stuff, and including some additional scouting reports on the new Pats.

Former Seahawks guard Robert Gallery (6 feet 7 inches, 323 pounds): “Great guy. Brought to Seattle [from Oakland] by [former Raiders coach] Tom Cable to provide leadership to the group in a shortened offseason. Smart. Tough guy. Competitor. Good leader. A little beat-up. He can be a utility guy. He can get you through a game at tackle if you need it, sure. He’s not a guy you want to be relying on to play 16 games anymore, that’s for sure.’’ Gallery can provide insurance for Logan Mankins, who is coming off ACL surgery.

NFL Network’s Mike Lombardi on his friend Bill Belichick (revisited from BS Report podcast, Feb. 9): “The guy loves this job, just like Tom Coughlin. They have very few hobbies and every year they do their job, they get better at their job. I think he’s at least five more years coaching. I would be shocked if he went less than that. I really, truly believe in my heart that he’ll coach beyond Tom Brady’s career.”
