Just because Brady might retire someday doesn’t mean we can’t still win another Super Bowl.

Just ignore the Taylor Price catch and run 1 minute in…

Interestingly for Cincinnati, they appear to be trading one player from the Bottom 5 for another, with both Cedric Benson and BenJarvus Green-Ellis posting identical figures in average yards after contact. One of the players in line to replace Green-Ellis in New England is all the way back at the top end of the scale, inside the Top 10. Stevan Ridley had just 87 carries in the 2011 regular season, but averaged over three yards per carry after contact, a full yard more than the player whose carries he may be receiving in 2012.

Patriots’ Tom Brady’s Window Closing, Time For Bill Belichick To Go Big In First Round « CBS Boston

Interesting case here made that the Pats should god for quality over quantity this year. The problem as I see it is that there isn’t a slam dunk player in the draft that will take this defense to the next level. In fact, I’d say you’re a lot more likely to take this defense to the next level by tapping multiple value targets in the second round.

Though cornerback isn’t a glaring need in my book I see a lot of quality corners who fit what the Pats would like to be able to do.

In a dream scenario it would be easy to say “let’s trade a couple picks, move up in the first round and nab the next Demarcus Ware”, but I don’t think the next Demarcus Ware is anywhere in this draft, especially not in the range that the Pats would be able to get to with their draft capital, 10th overall is probably the ceiling for what the two first rounders would get by the draft value chart.

It’s impossible to know how the draft will go, and which prospects could possibly fall into a range where the Patriots see value in the player for a trade up, but from what I see the real value in areas of need (DB, OLB, C/G) will be in the mid-rounds.

Bill Belichick’s brethren laud free agent pickups – BostonHerald.com

Good stuff from Rapsheet (as he winds down his time covering the Patriots) with perspectives from the former coaches of the Pats free agency pick ups.

Liked this little bit on Steve Gregory…

Gregory is a corner/safety hybrid who played both for the Chargers, and the Patriots moved quickly in free agency to ink him to a three-year deal to stand alongside Patrick Chung. Turner viewed the union as perfect. “He’s hard-nosed,” Turner said. “He’s a competitive guy, he’s a hard-worker, he’s a pro. He’ll fit great in what they’re doing. He’s a complete player. I think he does a great job fitting the run, he’s good in coverage.”
