At Syracuse, defensive end Chandler Jones wore No. 99, but barring a change in the coming months, he’ll have 95 here in New England. His thoughts? “It really doesn’t matter at all,” he said. “I try not to get into what number I want to get. You know what? Whatever number they give me, I’m happy with. I’m happy to be a Patriot.”

Admirable attitude, still not loving him in 95 though.

I just know there’s a focus about us where we’re communicating a lot. It’s huge in having that in developing that team chemistry. I’m really excited about this year. I think we all have raised our level of focus.

This essentially allows Jones to officially start his professional career two to three months earlier than a rookie in his position would have in the past.

Latest 53-man Patriots roster projection

May 23, 2012 by Mike Dussault

This is starting to get a little easier the more I look at it. No need to waste a spot on Gerard Warren, he’s not going anywhere else.

This time around the tough cut was Dane Fletcher. The combination of Hightower, Cunningham and Tracy White left me without a spot for him. He’s no better than third at either inside linebacker spot. Cunningham has more versatility when comparing him to Fletcher in pass rush. So I like him, but basically Hightower is going to push him down the depth chart in multiple areas.

Defensively you have a number of guys who can do multiple things, especially in the secondary. Markell Carter was my surprise to make the team.

As for Andre Carter if he wants to come back to the Pats he probably can. It would be easy to PUP him and get him ready for the stretch run. But the Pats have protected themselves sufficiently should another team make an amazing offer.

Patriots lock up first round draft pick Chandler Jones.

Good news and I have to say I am very much enjoying the lack of rookie signing drama across the league this year.

Just not sold on the 95 number selection. Yet. If it’s even permanent.

Only Hightower (see above, as well as at OTAs this week) and Bequette remain unsigned.

Safe to say a lot of these are temporary, but one I’d love to see stay the same is Lloyd’s 88. Dont’a Hightower’s 45 is sure to change.
