FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS:| Week 3 DVOA Ratings

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS:| Week 3 DVOA Ratings

The Pats take a tumble from 2nd overall down to 9th. While the offense didn’t change (still 2nd) the defense went from 3rd to 19th. And they’re not even the worst, special teams are 20th.

Tom Brady had 4:01 left with just a 30-28 lead, so this was going to be a crucial execution of the four-minute offense. We have seen teams like Dallas, Atlanta and Houston really put games away (against the Manning brothers this year, specifically) in this moment. While the Patriots like to pass in these situations, Brady’s success is not up to par. In the final four minutes of the fourth quarter with a one-score lead, Brady is just 31 of 58 for 328 yards, interception and a 63.0 passer rating. On third downs only, he is 15 of 29 for 176 yards, interception and a 56.1 passer rating.

Captain Comeback Week 3: What the Hell’s Going on Out Here?

Somewhat of a companion piece to what I wrote earlier today about the defense. No question Brady and the offense didn’t do them any favors in those games either. Still, you can’t go 0-for-4 on defense when a stop equals a win.

Breaking Down the Officiating in New England Patriots Loss to Baltimore Ravens | Bleacher Report

An epic breakdown from Frenz of all the penalties from Pats-Ravens. By his final estimate 5 of the Pats 10 penalties were clearly invalid, while only 2 of the Ravens 14 were.

This was the worst call of the night right here:

Before we get into that, some stuff just needs to be said,” Rodgers said. “First of all, I’ve got to do something that the NFL is not going to do, and I have to apologize to the fans. Our sport is generated, a multi-billion dollar machine, by people who pay good money to come watch us play. And the product on the field is not being complemented by an appropriate set of officials. The games are getting out of control. Like I said in the first week, I’m OK with replacement refs as long as they don’t have a direct impact on the game. Obviously last night there was a direct impact on the game on multiple plays. But my thing is I just feel bad for the fans. They pay good money to watch this. The game is being tarnished by an NFL that obviously cares more about saving some money than having the integrity of the game diminished.

What impact will Bodden & Warren’s return to Patriots have?

When the New England Patriots training camp opened in July of 2010 both Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden were penciled in to make major impacts on a defense that was just beginning a major rebuild. Both were lost for the season shortly thereafter, and things looked pretty bleak in terms of replacing either of them. […]
