We’ll also get a much better feel for how good the Patriots are, especially in the running game; both the Bills and Broncos are lacking on defense. The Seahawks are not. The 70 points they have allowed through five games are tied for second-lowest in team history — and 16 weren’t given up by the defense. Seattle is good in all three levels of its defense, so this should be an excellent matchup. A look at the Seahawks, who lead the league with 44 penalties.

As someone who loves good defense I’m pumped for the match-up this weekend. Nothing tells you more about your team than when they go into a hostile environment to face a great defense.

Three-Point Stance: Seattle Seahawks – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Three-Point Stance: Seattle Seahawks – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Couple interesting nuggets of note on Seahawks below. Everyone’s going to point to Russel Wilson and say he doesn’t have a chance to put up a lot of points but we said the same thing about Kevin Kolb. If the Seahawks can get pressure with their front four, which they probably should be able to do, and Wilson just doesn’t turn the ball over more than once, the Seahawks will have be in this one no matter how much their offense sputters.

The Seahawks feature a ferocious four-man pass rush that has recorded a sack once every 10.8 dropbacks, second best in the league. First-round draft pick Bruce Irvin (4.5 sacks) and veteran rusher Chris Clemons (5.5 sacks) are one of two sets of teammates with at least four sacks so far this season (Geno Atkins and Michael Johnson of the Bengals). Overall, Seahawks defensive linemen have accounted for 14.5 sacks this season, trailing only the Bears (16) among NFL defensive line groupings.

Russell Wilson, the rookie from Wisconsin, has thrown an interception once every 20.8 attempts.

While the 2007 team averaged 411.3 yards per game, through five games, the 2012 team is averaging 439.4 yards per game. This year’s team is far better at running the ball than their 2007 counterparts (115.6 yards per game to 165.4 yards per game), and while they don’t have the passing stats to match the 2007 team (295.7 yards per game five years ago vs. 274 through five games this year), they can nearly boast the same ridiculous points per game total (36.8 in 2007, 33 this year).

It’s always nice when you take 53 guys on the road and you say ‘this is all we’ve got, and this is all we need, this is what we got to do,’ and see 70,000 fans and keep them quiet, or turn them on their own team. That’s the exciting part for road teams, to see if you can get them booing their own players.

No huddle affected Patriots offense late – Patriots – Boston.com

No huddle affected Patriots offense late – Patriots – Boston.com

Seems like it’s Bedard Wednesdays around here since his wrap up and grades is always a must read, and then his appearance on Dennis & Callahan is a must listen. But some great stuff in here with this interesting tidbit of how the Pats offense seemed to poop out a bit. This is something I’m hoping to take a closer look at later today. Does the Pats offense always sputter late when they run a lot of no huddle?

A lot of attention has been focused on the fast-break, no-huddle offense, and it’s certainly deserving. The players and all the offensive coaches deserve a lot of credit for getting it ready to unleash against a quality opponent. And it was certainly a big reason the Patriots built a 31-7 lead. The Broncos didn’t know what hit them, and at times couldn’t even get lined up correctly. But expect the Patriots to tweak how they use it, because the no-huddle was likely a big reason they went scoreless in the final 19:42 of the game and nearly allowed the Broncos to mount a comeback. Some of the ineffectiveness had to do with the Patriots taking a more conservative approach to burn clock and the Broncos’ defense being aggressive. But the Patriots also looked very tired in the final quarter-plus of the game as the first-half pace took a self-inflicted toll. Of the final 22 plays the Patriots ran before the kneel-downs, 10 went for 1 yard or less, including three sacks, two fumbles (one lost), a penalty, and a near-interception. That’s 45.5 percent.

Here’s the best segment from A Football Life: Cleveland 95 for Patriots fans featuring all of the little BB clones. Love it! And apparently Mike Tannenbaum was absent on the day where they discussed the importance of depth?

If we beat the Texans convincingly this Sunday do you think we should be favorites going into the AFCCG no matter who we face?

Regardless of the how much we won our game by the Broncos (-3ish) will be favored in Denver and the Pats (-8ish) will be favored in Foxboro.
