What the Hell Does it Take to Win a Super Bowl, Anyway? Barstool Sports: Boston

What the Hell Does it Take to Win a Super Bowl, Anyway? Barstool Sports: Boston

Awesome read from Jerry Thornton, finally nailing down something I’ve been trying to wrap my head around for a long time.

I see it this way, there are about 10 teams in the NFL that can win the Super Bowl. All of them have different strengths and weaknesses, but those really don’t matter. Just one of those teams will put together 3 or 4 great games in January and February. Games where they make all the impossible plays, get all the bounces and just play lights out football.

As Jerry lays out, there’s no real formula other than that. So for all the talk of the Patriots decline, needs, etc. it doesn’t really matter. They’ll be one of the ten teams in contention next year whether they go 14-2 or 10-6.

Really, that’s all you can ask for.

Gathering opinions on Wes Welker – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston

Good cross-section of opinions on the Welker sitch, and a lot of what me and Frenz talked about this morning on the podcast.

If Dennard is convicted of third-degree assault on an officer he could be sentenced to up to five years in prison. He is also facing misdemeanor counts of assault and resisting arrest, which each come with a sentence of up to one year in prison.

Police officer testifies Alfonzo Dennard punched him in the jaw | ProFootballTalk

Not many Pats fans talking about the ramifications of Dennard being in prison next season possibly. That would make the cornerback situation even more dire.

New England Patriots: Why Pats Fans Need to Appreciate Kyle Arrington More | Bleacher Report

New England Patriots: Why Pats Fans Need to Appreciate Kyle Arrington More | Bleacher Report

Good take from James Ermilio on one of the most polarizing players in the Patriots secondary. I agree with what he lays out. It’s nearly impossible to find versatile corners who can stay healthy. Arrington isn’t a shutdown corner, but when used right he’s really solid.

It’s easy to pick on corners because when they make a mistake it likely ends up on the scoreboard. But I think Arrington is a safe investment and should give the Pats some good depth at multiple spots in their secondary.

Although the market for CBs is inflated in a passing league, Arrington might still be had relatively cheaply. At 26, a two-year deal that keeps his cap hit manageable (he had an $825,000 base in 2012) should be doable for both sides. As a fan? All I ask is that you look beyond Arrington’s talk-radio reputation and appreciate him for what he is: a good, versatile, hard-working corner with room to grow.

Is the Championship Window Closed for Tom Brady, New England Patriots?

Obviously it isn’t, but maybe it was for the last few seasons due to the defense?
