So after the Wide Receiver drills what are your thoughts on who the Patriots should maybe pick in the draft?

I’ll be compiling everything this week. The draft is a three month process for me since I pay zero attention to it until the Patriots season ends.  In the next month I’ll really be getting a good sense of the players that I like most and where the best value will be. Overall I think the Pats will wait until round two at the earliest if they take a receiver. I know everyone just wants to plug Tavon Austin in, and obviously that kind of explosiveness would help, but I try not to get too attached to any one player because really there’s a 90% chance he won’t end up in New England.

I’ve said several times if you’re a playoff team this year, you’re laughing because there is so much depth to this [draft] that if you’re drafting 20-30, it’s not a whole lot different than the fifth or sixth pick. So for me, if you’re a playoff team, you’re sitting back and going, ‘This is pretty good.’

All of this is not to suggest that the Patriots are a team that doesn’t have issues of their own. The uncertainty at wide receiver and defensive back must be addressed sooner rather than later. But these are relatively minor when compared to the problems that face the rest of the AFC East: while New England is worried about a few minor dents and repairs, the other three teams are in the shop for an extended overhaul that could take some time.
