Brady gets a $30 million signing bonus as part of the deal, and that will be paid out between now and early 2015. In addition, his $1 million base this year and $2 million base next year are fully guaranteed. As of now, his $7 million base in 2015, $8 million base for 2016 and $9 million base for 2017 are guaranteed for injury only. However, if he’s on the roster for the last game of 2014 season, the $24 million due from 2015-17 become fully guaranteed.
Details emerge on Tom Brady’s contract extension with Patriots – NFL.com
It’s still amazing to me how these kind of numbers get thrown around and meanwhile just about every single one of us will never see even a fraction of this kind of money ever in our lives. Oh well…

The Patriots have done an excellent job at finding a few players in each of the recent drafts and getting the most out of their rookie contracts. The players they over paid played well but just didn’t live up to their contract, and had Gronkowski and Hernandez just stayed healthy they would have no other issues. There are many reasons why New England has 10 or more wins in each of their last 10 years, and how they handle their salary cap is one of them.

Hard to say for sure because what he’s getting knocked for all happened behind the scenes. But if he’s a problem for team chemistry and getting on people’s nerves I can see why they don’t want to give him a $3 million bonus.
I wouldn’t be against bringing Welker and Edelman back, along with a mid-range vet WR or two, and then just go for it in the first round on someone like Justin Hunter.
Thoughts on Brady, Lloyd – Extra Points – Boston.com
Some more on Lloyd…
[I]t’s in the realm of possibility that he is back. There is still internal debate going on about whether or not he can be managed. And the biggest factor is the Patriots don’t have any receivers at this point in time. Do they cut Lloyd and roll the dice so they can find receivers other than Wes Welker (if he gets his new contract) that can function in this scheme? Or do they take a known commodity in Lloyd, figure out a way to manage him better, and try again? That remains to be seen. His production (74 catches for 911 yards) is nothing to sneeze at with the way the receiver position has gone for the Patriots. But the odds are that he isn’t back.
