Pass Atlas: A Map of Where NFL Quarterbacks Throw the Ball – The Triangle Blog – Grantland

“I want to get you every day in practice,” Jones recalled Gronk telling him last season. “You’re good, you’re good. I was like, ‘Wow, Rob Gronkowski telling me this.’ So, it kind of a gave me a little confidence boost. It helped. It helped a lot. I told him that the other day. “Gronk did help me, saying that to me gave me some confidence going out on the field. It gave me a little extra boost, it did.”

Belichick and Newsome are the best head coach and best general manager in the NFL, according to an SI.com canvassing of league general managers.
A dozen GMs participated in the poll, in which they were promised anonymity and could not vote for anyone on their own teams.
Belichick received nine of the 12 votes cast for best coach. Jeff Fisher of the Rams, Tom Coughlin of the Giants and Harbaugh each received one vote.
“He can coach the offense, he can coach the defense, he can coach his own coaches,” one GM said of Belichick. “He’s the outstanding coach of his time.”
“Is there any debate about it?” asked another GM “Always prepared. Has reinvented that team several times and competed for a championship after every reinvention. There is nobody better.”
“We all have our trials and tribulations, but I don’t think there’s anyone who matches him in terms of matching personnel and scheme,” added a third GM “His ability to stay calm in the heat of fire is impressive in this league.”

Have we forgotten, in this rush to be excited about E.J. Manuel, that the Bills allowed 89 points to the Patriots in two games last year? I mean, 89 points in three games would be bad. Two? Watch the frenetic sideline-to-sideline middle linebacker and second-round pick, Kiko Alonso (No. 50) in this one, to see if the Bills can finally make some headway in stopping Tom Brady. The Pats, by the way, are 23-2 versus the Bills in the last 25 meetings.

Not gonna lie, it was a little strange and was a little bit of a gut punch. The interesting thing to me is that the way the Broncos moved the ball with him reminded me of the Patriots offense. We all have seen the Patriots look just as unstoppable as the Broncos did last night and that’s what Welker can do for an offense.
But I think what we’ve learned about the Welker-based offense is that while it can be at times unstoppable, it can also tend to go cold. Maybe Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker will prevent teams from doing what they used to do to the Pats to stop it, i.e. crowding the short zones, and blasting Welker every time he makes a catch, but seeing what the Broncos did last night didn’t make me wish Welker was still on the Pats.
It’s was more “yup, that’s what he can do” but let’s see if he can continue to do it for the next six months and when it’s all on the line. I still have my doubts given his age and how, despite the touchdowns, he still had some mistakes.
That said, I’m excited for the new receivers in the Pats offense, and seeing Danny Amendola in Welker’s role, and what new elements he brings to it.

New England at Buffalo (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Look for a no-huddle vs. no-huddle matchup here. The Patriots are on the vanguard of today’s speed offenses, and they’ll want to keep Buffalo’s multi-tiered defense in base nickel coverage. The Bills are starting rookie quarterback EJ Manuel, who will benefit from quicker action and timing passes to his targets. Running backs could be the key — Bill Belichick knows how dangerous C.J. Spiller is, and Pats back Shane Vereen can line up all along the formation. – DF
Hey look, some Jets are working out on the West Coast too and they even had a 5th grader make them some t-shirts. Nice touch with the Super Bowl 45s on the sleeves, glad they’re reminding themselves its get to the big dance or bust this season.
