Couture Belichick Hoodies For All at Super Bowl 53 Opening Night

I’m still in shock that last night many of the Patriots and Rams players and coaches were put into what could only be described as Belichick Fashion Hoodies for opening night.

There’s just no other explanation and it feels like one weird troll job by the NFL where they’re tipping the hat to Belichick. The short sleeves. The gray. The floppy hood up top. Who else has ever worn anything close to this style of sweatshirt? Where? Ever?

Perhaps even more unbelievable is the price tag. $174.99 for a generic one, $339 if you want a player’s number stitched on it. Unless there’s one with “BB” on it, I’m not even tempted.

I have so many questions. Who spends this kind of money on this kind of sweatshirt, especially before knowing if SB53 will forever be a wonderful or dreadful experience? Imagine how you’d feel if you’d dropped that kind of cash for a Super Bowl 42, 46 or 52 windbreaker or sweatshirt. It’d never see the light of day again.

As always, Opening Night was one big fashion show with the pricetag to match a fashion show. But the fact that it’s clearly an homage to the style that the one and only Bill Belichick made famous makes this just a bit delightful, whether the NFL knew what they were doing or not.

But of course, Belichick didn’t wear it. Nope, like he’s done so many times with the Patriots, he zagged and wore a suit.

There’s another level though, that Belichick’s three Super Bowl losses with the Patriots all came in cut sleeves. Now the sleeves on this couture are clearly not hastily hacked off with some trainer room scissors. So does this count as a cut hoodie if Belichick decided to wear it? Is the NFL trying to tempt him into wearing a loss-inducing cut hoodie? Hmmm.

Still, the site of the Rams wearing a Belichick homage hoodie before the big game is a bit satisfying.

The full Super Bowl Hoodie preview will drop tomorrow, but this special nod to Belichick did not go unnoticed by your faithful Hoodie docent and adds another intriguing element to his wardrobe choice for Sunday.
