With (Manning) it is every … single … thing. It’s cadence. It’s formations. It’s little adjustments he’ll have guys make in pass routes. A protection on an inside-the-20-yard-line play. The changes he’ll make on third down, or with play action. But it’s all within the context of their offense. And it’s not 50 different things. Maybe there’ll be five plays in a game that you’ll think, ‘I haven’t seen that before.’ Or: ‘I haven’t seen that in several weeks.’ But you know you’ve seen all the rest of it before, and somehow he’s still making it work.

Super Bowl XLVIII will ride on Peyton Manning and Bill Belichick knows that’s hard for an opposing coach – NY Daily News

Good read, Belichick’s respect for Manning is clear. No one knows the game better than Belichick and no one has a better appreciation of Peyton than he does.

Assuming the Broncos return most of their team from this year, even with or without Decker, you have to wonder what the Pats do this offseason, specifically with Peyton in mind. Interior pass rush and press corners are clearly what you need to have any chance.

There was a few seconds there where he was dancing and some of my other guys around me, like (Larry) Izzo to my right, and Tedy Bruschi is back in the back and we’re all just kind of shooting eyes around looking at each other like, ‘Look at this,’ ” Chatham said. “When security ran on the field, that’s when he started his run. He ran toward our end of the field. He had his little 15 seconds of fame, so I instinctively said, ‘All right, enough,’ and just nabbed him down.

What do you think the price tag will be for veteran receivers like Boldin and Nicks? Basically, I’m going to assume that Larry Fitzgerald and similar players are never coming here because the Pats just don’t make moves like that, but who do you think would fit the Pats’ years/dollars parameters enough to actually end up in NE?

Flip side to a previous question: you have the chance to determine personnel + scheme of NE’s offense heading into the 2014 season. Who do you sign, re-sign, or let walk… and how do you use them?

Honestly don’t know what happens with Edelman, but let’s take an optimists approach.

Dobson develops at X and becomes an every down WR on the outside. Edelman is the primary Z, with Amendola working in behind him and in three wide receiver sets.

Keep an eye out for Mark Harrison as well in a Hernandez-esque role at F or even at X behind Dobson.

Thompkins is then the utility back-up WR, though I have a tough time getting a read on him. He and Boyce could be battling for a spot in training camp.

If Edelman walks, you slip Amendola into the primary Z role. From a value standpoint this is probably the better scenario. And it would allow them to allocate some money on a third WR option in FA who could play significant snaps.

Dobson’s development is one of the biggest stories of the offseason that no one will be able to monitor until training camp. But if I was him I’d be attached to Brady’s hip from now until July.

Who knows what happens at TE. Of course you want Gronk back and Gronk needs a healthy year or it could be his last in NE. They just need a better threat than Hooman. That should be the easiest offseason personnel move to make, though I think Hooman is good insurance to bring back.

When people talk about ‘adding weapons’ tight end is the first place to start. Someone who can threaten the seam until Gronk can is paramount and will open up a lot for the rest of the offense.

Unless they really were disappointed with Dobson and don’t see futures with Boyce/Thompkins, I doubt there’s a big splash FA signing at WR. Wouldn’t rule anything out in the draft though, especially if a unique talent fell.

Mario is making is making so much money and I think New England is going to be cognizant of Vince Wilfork’s $8 million a year. I think that’s one thing that the Patriots have done a great job of – they don’t bring anybody in the locker room that makes more than some of their […]
