Do you think wilfork will be back this season? Especially after him clearing out his locker and tearing off his name tag.

March 24, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Never say never. Certainly sounds dramatic but Wilfork’s been gone on vacation for a while now, so this is somewhat old news even though we’re just hearing about it now. For anyone who went through Wilfork’s last contract negotiation, it certainly was just as contentious as this seems now.

Ultimately I think it boils down to what is Vince going to get out on the open market. If you’re another team you have to be a little wary of signing him to a big deal coming off a major injury with all the mileage he has on him.

It really makes the most sense for him to return to the Pats and finish out his career as a Patriot so I still hold out hope that cooler heads prevail.

New England Patriots’ Robert Kraft makes case for Vince Wilfork to remain with team – ESPN Boston

Nothing would make me happier this offseason than to see the Pats and Wilfork come to a new agreement. I know Vince is a proud man and we saw in his last contract negotiation that things got a little contentious at times, but they still found a way to get things done to keep Vince in New England. Hopefully they can bring it back from the brink once again.

Mark Sanchez briefly was the star QB the Jets expected. | SportsonEarth.com : Will Leitch Article

I know Mark Sanchez is everyone’s favorite punching bag right now but I don’t think Patriots fans will forget his performance in the 2010 playoffs.

Yes, getting to two-straight AFC Championships was impressive, but beating the Patriots in Foxboro after losing there a month earlier by an embarrassing 45-3 had to be the crowning moment of Sanchez’ career as a Jet.

He was lights out that game, played mistake-free and took advantage of a Patriots offense that never got on track and couldn’t put Sanchez and the Jets offense behind the eight ball.

What with all of the pretty glaring needs staring the Pats face at this point free agency (pass rusher, TE, DT, interior OL, (QB?)) and considering the depth of this year’s draft, do you think we can expect to see another classic Belichick trade down on draft day to nab more second/third round talent?

March 24, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Well free agency isn’t over yet and I’m sure there will be quite a few more signings to come. It’s hard to predict what the Pats will do on draft weekend especially with that first round pick because the value in the second round isn’t all that much different than what you’re getting at 29.

I think they’ll fill more of those remaining holes, but when I look at where they need youth the most the interior offensive line is the first place that jumps out.

Yes we need pass rushers and that’s a big priority but the youth and ascending talent. If Gronk comes back, has a great, dominant year it’s hard to worry about tight end and with Chris Jones/Siliga/Vellano/Armstead, the youth at DT is okay to.

Just don’t see the talent potential nor depth at interior OL and it’s not like Dante Scarnecchia can be simply relied upon to make solid players out of nobodies anymore. Mankins is getting up there in age now and his salary is going to be a yearly issue now.

So if there’s anywhere they need to strike earlier than later in my book, it’s at center/guard.

Who do you think looks the best on the field? Last season i had to give it to Spikes, he looked like one scary man. I also like McCourty, Kenbrell Thompkins, and Ridley.

March 24, 2014 by Mike Dussault

Haha, some of my newer readers might not get this question but I love it!

First, we have to start with Brady. I mean, just perfect. The number, the helmet and how it rides low. I don’t know how even the staunchest Peyton Manning support can’t admit that Brady just looks a million times better on the field.

I really like Ninkovich too. Just blue collar and tough, he’s done right by #50 since Vrabel left.

Not a huge McCourty fan, more just because of his helmet choice, but hey, he’s being careful of concussion so that’s fine I guess. But yeah, Ridley is solid and Spikes was a monster in 55. I’ll miss that look.

I think Collins could really elevate this year as he fills out a bit. He had a good number/helmet/facemask combo. And I obviously can’t wait to see what Revis and Browner look like. Those two will elevate the “look” game of the entire team.

[Wilfork] has made more progress than I think anybody really expected to at this point. He was out there for the entire practice yesterday, but his reps were extremely limited over the last few sets of 11-on-11 drills. This is progress from the previous two times we’ve seen him. He used to be out there […]
