The Patriots have a need at the position after LeGarrette Blount signed with the Steelers, but there is doubt that they’d be aggressive suitors for Johnson, in part because of his limitations in pass protection and how highly the team values that skill with its backs. Just don’t see the Patriots getting into any type of bidding competition at a position they have shied away from spending even moderate dollars the last two years.

Reiss thinks Chris Johnson is a long-shot for the Pats. I do think they have a need at running back still after missing out on both Blount and Moreno. They had Michael Bush in for a visit earlier this week. Running back is slowly shaping up to be a solid need in the draft.

One story of note came when he recapped the team’s 15-minute interview with second-round draft choice Patrick Chung at the combine. “That made an impression,” Caserio told the crowd of about 50. “After 15 minutes, we were ready to run through a wall. It was like ‘sign me up.’ … This is one of these guys, the more you’re around him, you like what you see.”

What’s your opinion of the last three draft classes

April 3, 2014 by Mike Dussault

They’ve gotten at least four very solid contributors in each class so I’d say the last few years have been good. Throw in McCourty and Gronk from 2010, along with guys like Spikes/Hernandez/Mesko/Cunningham who are no longer on the team but played a vital role for good chunks of the last four seasons and they’ve really been on a pretty good tear in the last four drafts.

From 2006-2009 there are only five players left on the team that they drafted. So the recent drafts have really made up for those years of bad drafts.

Although they were still very good in 2010, I think 2011 is where things really started to come together. 2008 and 2009 were really the down years between the dynasty and the next evolution, but they’ve come back strong and now have a really good young base in place on both sides of the ball to take them past the inevitable Brady transition.

There are still holes to fill and they’ll need last year’s rookies to take significant steps forward, but on paper things look very promising.

I joked with (Wilfork). I told him I went down to Florida to make sure he came back, so he kind of owes me a little percent of his contract. He’s the heart and soul of not just the defense but the team. Everyone in that locker room listens to Vince when he speaks. He’s not a guy that is just talking all the time or talking to talk. When he speaks, everyone listens.

Good read on McCourty.

Patriots Super Bowl First Quarters vs. Fourth Quarters

Mike Reiss brought up one of the Patriots most impossible and infamous stats to Bill Belichick yesterday, that the Patriots had yet to score a point in the first quarter of any of their seven Super Bowl appearances. Belichick scoffed even though the players said last year he was all over them about getting off […]
