Sharing New England Patriots thoughts at halftime – ESPN Boston

I really like what they’re doing defensively now. It’s straightforward but effective. The “base” package is the double nose with Wilfork and Siliga eating up the whole middle. Chandler and Ninkovich either stand or pass rush depending on the strength of the offense.

Then the subpackage interior is Easley and Jones, both should excel in this role, which I won’t call situational because that lessens it. This is the best pass rush front personnel-wise the Patriots have had in some time. It also gives Wilfork a rest.

Hightower has been all over the field.

It Is What It Is » Sunday NFL Notes: In wake of awful week, will league see change in leadership?

Interesting numbers on the lighter/smaller Patriots. Something to analyze this week, but now, I begin pregaming.

a) Players weighing 200 pounds or less: 10. The Patriots were one of nine teams with 10 players who were at 200 or less. Washington had the most with 12, while New Orleans and Carolina had the fewest at four each.

b) Players under six feet: 14. New England was tied for second in the league with San Diego in total players under six feet. Cleveland had the most with 16, while Oakland had the fewest with only two.

c) Players weighing 300 pounds or more: 8. The Patriots were tied with Houston for last place with eight players at 300 pounds or more. Indianapolis had the most with 15.

Football by Football | Matt Chatham: How NOT to Defend Minnesota’s Cordarrelle Patterson

Great pregame X-and-O read from Matt Chatham. Without AP in this one it seems to me the biggest focus will be on the edges and back end of the defense.

It seems like the first thing to always happen as the off-season gets underway are changes to the coaching staff and today it was announced that defensive backs coach Corwin Brown would not return for a second season and long time strength and conditioning coach Mike Woicik appears to be headed back to Dallas.
