Logan Mankins’ Agent Really Trying Hard

August 24, 2010 by Mike Dussault

I’m not going to bash Logan Mankins here, the fact is he’s always been my favorite lineman on the Pats. But I’m a Patriots fan, and that supersedes any and every player. Thirty years from now, Hoodie-willing, I’ll still be a Patriots fan and none of the players who are Patriots now will be Patriots then (unless my Tom Brady cloning experiment finally works).

So again today the Logan Mankins news pops back up. Today we hear that he is financially secure enough to sit out the whole season. Knowing what I know about Logan I don’t really find that hard to believe. You can only spend so much on cattle and beef jerky.

Every time these stories randomly pop up you have to know it’s Mankins agent, desperately trying to re-engage the Patriots. It’s the equivalent of saying “he’s gonna sit out the season. No really, he is. He can afford it too. He’s going to. Really.”

Okay, we get it.

The sides haven’t spoken since May, and it’s a good bet that it’s going to take more than just warnings like today’s to get the Pats to bite.

Mankins is an excellent guard. He also takes his share of penalties. I hate all the talk of “he’s the best guard in the NFL” or “he’s a top five guard”. Superlatives are always so empty. He’s really good. Fine. There are other really good players out there.

The Patriots have never, and will never, pay players tops at their position. Don’t we all know that by now? That’s how they operate. Nothing personal, Logan. They did offer him a lucrative contract extension but obviously it wasn’t what he wanted. So here we are at an impasse.

Anyway, I’m just sick of new Mankins tidbits popping up every week now. If the Pats didn’t call when Kaczur had back surgery they probably aren’t going to call.

So yes, Logan Mankins would certainly help the Patriots this year. But they certainly won’t be broke without him either. Patriots fans have seen this many times before. I just hope the Pats are able to get something for him.

Pats Will Be Prepared

Pats Will Be Prepared

Isn’t it nice to be somewhat under the radar and incredibly underestimated this year? Everyone seems to write off the fact that this offense will be one of the most dangerous in the NFL, and you can never write off a team like that even when the defense is young and unexperienced.

That transition from a quarterback to a wide receiver position, that’s a hard thing to do,” Moss said of Edelman, who played quarterback at Kent State and was drafted in the seventh round as a kick returner and potential Wildcat quarterback. “When guys are able to come from the bottom and work their way to […]
